Continue ReadingEach Sunday we will be previewing the best games in the upcoming week. Below you can find the top ten games around the state for Week #10. This will be the last Games of the Week article due to the schedule not being set going forward with regional play in the next couple weeks. Be sure to check our twitter page @PGHIowa each day for a listing of the top games each day going forward. All year long we have been tweeting 10-15 games to keep an eye on and we will continue that until the state tournament.
Monday: CAM (13-6) @ Paton-Churdan (13-6) @ 6:00PM
On Monday, CAM and Paton-Churdan meet in what is their last game of the regular season. They both head into Class 1A, Region 8 and are looking to grab a little momentum as they each have the potential to win two games and make it to the semi-finals. CAM has lost five games in a row while Paton-Churdan has rattled off nine in a row. This will be a great game for CAM to get back to their winning ways.
Monday: Knoxville (18-1) @ Carlisle (9-9) @ 6:00PM
Knoxville hasn’t been tested much this year with the easiest schedule in class 4A by far. The best team they have played this year beat them so they are still looking for that signature win. Carlisle provides a tough task as they have proven this year that they can play with the better teams on their schedule despite being 9-9.
Tuesday: Bishop Heelan (16-3) @ Council Bluffs Lincoln (14-5) @ 5:30PM
Bishop Heelan and Council Bluffs Lincoln have both had very good years up to this point in the season. For Bishop Heelan, the expectation is to get back to the state tournament while Council Bluffs Lincoln could put a huge exclamation point on the year if they did so. This is a very good game for both teams to piece together what they need to work on before tournament play starts.
Tuesday: Ankeny Centennial (10-9) @ Mason City (10-9) @ 6:15PM
Both of these groups have had some up-and-down play all season long. Mason City got off to a hot start to the season before getting into the meat of their schedule and starting to fall apart at times. Ankeny Centennial has been a lot better than most people thought they would be this year and they are looking to really make a statement when they travel up to Mason City. This is a game that either team could win by 20 points.
Tuesday: Xavier (13-6) @ Cedar Rapids Kennedy (9-10) @ 7:30PM
With one of the top seniors in the state out for the year for Xavier, Kennedy is looking to throw the upset. Kennedy has been playing really solidly all year long after losing their top player to begin the season. Xavier is still learning to play without their point guard so don’t count out Kennedy in this one.
Tuesday: Maquoketa Valley (17-3) @ Springville (16-4) @ 6:00PM
Maquoketa has proven all year long that they have the capability to beat bad teams with their press and ball handling while struggling with the good teams that they play. Springville is a good team and while they aren’t the best ball-handling team should provide a challenge. This is one game that should have a close eye kept on it.
Thursday: Davenport North (14-2) @ North Scott (18-0) @ 7:30PM
North Scott looks to continue their dominant run this year as they host Davenport North on Thursday night. Davenport North is having a very good season as well and they are looking to add an exclamation point on their season as they look to take out top-ranked North Scott on their home floor. This might be a region preview game.
Thursday: Marion (18-0) @ Central DeWitt (16-2) @ 7:30PM
All Marion has done this year is win in convincing fashion. Similarily, that is all Central DeWitt has done this year as well. Central DeWitt is looking for that breakthrough game where they can take down Marion. For Marion, a win in this game would just be another notch in the ladder for them as they pursue another state title.
Thursday: North Linn (18-1) @ Cascade (20-0) @ 6:00PM
One of the best games of the week pits two teams that have a great chance to win the state title. It will be a good test for both teams to see where they stand in terms of each other before a potential matchup in the state tournament. Cascade has gone through the season unscathed but this will be their biggest test yet.
Saturday: Iowa City High (17-0) @ Waukee (16-2) @ 5:30PM
To cap off the regular season we will have one of the top matchups of the year as Iowa City High travels to Waukee. These are two teams that very well could see each other again in the state tournament so seeing what happens in this game is going to be key. Iowa City High has beaten the best teams in the state already and Waukee will be as apt challenger as anyone.
