Let’s take a deeper look into the backcourt and front court matchups that we should see during the game.
Valley Vista Back-Court:
Jennah Isai 5’10 2022 G
Sophie Martinez 5’6 2020 G
Alanis Delgado 5’5 2021 G
Olivia Arvallo 5’3 2023 G
Millennium Back-Court:
Jasmine Singleton 5’7 2020 G
Trayanna Crisp 5’8 2022 G
Amoret Maxwell 5’10 2021 G
Mia Amundsen 5’5 2023 G
Looking at the guard match-ups on paper, I think Millennium has a pretty solid edge in the backcourt. I think this is where Millennium will do a lot of their damage. I know for Millennium, Singleton, Crisp, and Maxwell, all get big minutes and they can all 3 play at a high level. For Valley Vista, Isai, Delgado, and Martinez play a ton. Isai is the only backcourt player I see that will play D1 in this lineup. Delgado and Martinez are probably NAIA/JUCO players. Which is totally fine, speaking as a JUCO assistant coach, however in this matchup, I think I give the edge to Millennium’s backcourt. I didn’t mention either of the team’s 2023 guards because I am unsure of how much they will play in this high level game. However, they can both play and could be X-Factors for their respective teams.
Valley Vista Front-Court:
Marisa Davis-Jones 6’1 2021 F
Saniyah Neverson 6’0 2022 F
Madison Magee 6’1 2021 F
Millennium Front-Court:
Ali Zelaya 6’4 2020 F
Imani Algeria 5’9 2020 F
Reece Grimsley 6’1 2021 F
The front court is where I think Valley will dominate. They have a ton of size and athleticism in their front court. There are only a handful of people in state that can run in transition with Marisa Davis-Jones. Furthermore, Neverson and Magee can contribute a ton and I think the overall size and athleticism advantage puts VV over the top for me concerning this front court matchup. Of course, Ali Zelaya is an amazing player and has turned in a great season. I think she will continue to do what she’s been doing, I am more concerned with the matchups between Neverson/Magee vs Algeria/Grimsley.
Of course, this is all on paper and who knows how each team will game plan for the other so take everything with a grain of salt. Just speaking matchups on paper, I would give the edge to Millennium in the backcourt and give the edge to Valley Vista in the front court.
This should make for quite the interesting game. I fully expect it to be close and within a few points for the majority of the game. I don’t really have a prediction for his game, I just want a highly competitive/intense game, almost playoff like atmosphere!
I think the game will be ultimately decided by which dynamic duo can outplay the other. In one corner, we have the younger duo of Marisa Davis-Jones and Jennah Isai. In the the corner, we have the senior duo of Ali Zelaya and Jasmine Singleton. Who will come out on top? We’ll find out Thursday!
