Cascia Hall had a tough time competing with the more experienced Eagles and never quite caught up to the hot shooting team from Tulsa. The Commandos lost 54-37 despite a much better second-half effort. Several players from both teams really stood out amongst the crowd.

Standouts

Gardner stood out on both ends of the court in her team’s defeat on Saturday morning. Gardner is the definition of a hard worker and seems to always be around the ball. She is scrappy and fights hard for rebounds under the basket. She displays a great shooting touch from 10 feet and in. The ball comes off the rim easy on her few missed shots and leads to a lot of offensive rebounds for her squad. Gardner can also be counted on at the free-throw line after the fouls that typically come from her battling hard in the paint. She is clearly the heart of her team and a great leader, even while on the bench.

If you have seen an Eagles game this season, then you have noticed Smith. She stands out due to her outstanding ball-handling, dribbling naturally with both hands, moving it between her legs and behind her back. As easily as she handles the ball, she just as easily puts the ball in the basket. From behind the arc or in the paint, Smith astounds with her shooting touch. Her scoring is varied, with two three-pointers, six points in the paint and two free throws. There is seemingly nothing that the senior guard can not do.

Hill is only a freshman and that is clear sometimes in the decisions that she makes on the court. That being said, the raw talent and pure size are indisputable. She shows flashes of being very basketball savvy and just needs to keep it up for the entire game. She has quick hands and was a problem for multiple guards from Edison. She ended the game with several steals. With time, Hill will be very fun to watch. The moves are there, the confidence will turn her into an absolute star in the next few years.
