Lyons controlled the game on both ends of the floor for the entire first half, resulting in a 34-16 advantage at half. Saint Ignatius stormed back, though, starting the 3rd quarter with a 16-0 run to pull within two points. Thanks to a pair of threes on consecutive possessions from Junior Lindsey Hahn, Lyons was able to stop the bleeding and take back command of the game, winning 60-48. Here are some of the intriguing prospects who impressed during the game:
2021 Lindsey Hahn, 5’8” Guard, Lyons Township
The standout Junior continued her impressive season on Friday night with a new career-high 28 points. Hahn showed her dominant shooting, hitting on several threes well beyond the three-point line, both off the dribble and spotting up. She’s an excellent combo guard that can play the 1 or 2 with her ability to lead an offense or score off the ball. Her excellent passing and on-ball defense were also very impressive throughout the game.
2021 Lauren McDonald, 5’8” Guard, Saint Ignatius
The first half didn’t go as planned for the Wolfpack, but it could have been much worse without McDonald. The strong Junior Guard had 9 of the teams first 14 points and was a key spark for the second half comeback. McDonald has shown she can be a knock down shooter, but her ability to attack the lane and finish in traffic is incredibly tough to stop. Lauren had a team-high 20 points to go along with 5 rebounds.
2021 Elli Kosanovich, 5’7” Guard, Lyons Township
Kosanovich is a dynamic athlete who has been known to give players fits with her lockdown defense. Her offense, though, continues to evolve game by game. Elli has developed a nice, consistent shot from deep and mid-range and does a good job of attacking the lane to get to the rim or kick out to open teammates. She finished with 13 points for the game.
2021 Rhema Ogele, 6’3” Forward, Saint Ignatius
A big part of the 16-0 run to start the second half, Ogele was a dominant force on the glass and tough to stop in the paint. The lengthy Junior did a terrific job on the defensive end, making things tough for Lyons’ post players to get good looks. Ogele finished with 8 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
2022 Hailey Markworth, 5’8” Guard, Lyons Township
While Hahn stole the show with a career day on offense, I came away just as impressed with the Sophomore, Markworth. The stat sheet may not look overwhelming (6pts, 6rebs, 3ast), but her effort and the hustle plays she made late in the game were a big reason why Lyons was able to pull away. She is a terrific defender and showed flashes of scoring ability on the offensive end. Markworth is definitely one to keep an eye on in the Class of 2022.
2020 Paige Gross, 5’10” Guard, Saint Ignatius
Gross is another key role player for this Saint Ignatius team that had a helping hand in the 3rd Quarter comeback. The Senior leads both by example and vocally on the court to keep her team composed and ready to play. Gross runs the floor very well in transition and does a nice job attacking the lane off the bounce to create opportunities for both herself and her teammates. Paige finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds.
2023 Ally Cesarini, 5’6” Guard, Lyons Township
Another underclassman from Lyons that caught my eye was the Freshman Guard coming off the bench. Cesarini showed that she can shoot the ball consistently with a nice form and move well without the ball so her teammates can find her for open looks at the basket.
