With opportunities for teams to earn season-defining and momentum-building wins on a nightly basis, opportunities arise for individuals to make their marks on the season.
Here are the top players from last week:
Julia Fitterer, Bismarck Century
The Patriots have more depth and skill than just about any team in the state and because of that, individual numbers are suppressed. Julia Fitterer is one of those players who is good enough to put up bigger numbers than she does but isn’t required to dominate consistently. She was excellent last week, scoring 21 points and grabbing eight rebounds in the Patriots win over Dickinson. She added 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists in a blowout win over Turtle Mountain.
Kendra Prouty, St. John
Prouty is one of the toughest covers in Class B North Dakota and has been a driving force in St. John’s strong season. She was terrific last week, leading the Woodchucks to a pair of wins. The 5-foot-10 junior forward scored 22 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, dished out three assists and picked up six steals in win over Rollette/Wolford. She backed that up with 17 points, 12 boards, six assists and seven steals in a win over Dakota Prairie.
McKenzie Hughes, Thompson
Thompson took a tough loss to Kindred last week but still remains a ranked team and a legitimate contender thanks in large part to Hughes being one of the best players in the state. The junior guard was awesome in all three of the Tommies’ games last week, scoring 24 points in a win over Cavalier, 28 points in a win over Hillsboro/Central Valley, and 26 of the team’s 51 points in the in loss to Kindred.
Taylor Fey, Fargo Davies
The Eagles are in the mix for the No. 2 finish in the EDC and earning two wins last week was a big step towards accomplishing that feat. Fey’s been terrific all year; but she took her game to another level last week. She was excellent in a blowout win over Fargo North, scoring 18 points and grabbing seven rebounds. The junior forward dominated in a 73-62 win over Grand Forks Red River, scoring 32 points and grabbing seven rebounds.
