It was a battle of contrasting styles as Central featured its size and inside power against North and its guard play and perimeter shooting. In the end, it was the host Parkway Central Colts who won out with its size and they took an early lead and pulled away for a 57-44 victory on their Senior Night.
Here is a look at the top standouts from Thursday night’s game.
Jayla Kelly 6’3″ Parkway Central: The University of Missouri recruit controlled the game at both ends of the court with her size, mobility and versatile skill set. When she was able to get the ball into the low post, it was a bucket. She is also an excellent passer who finds open teammates when she sees a double-team. She was also a force as a rebounder and shot blocker.
Claudia Cook 6’0″ Parkway Central: The Kenyon College commit is a strong inside player who forms a formidable front-court combination with Jayla Kelly. She is an excellent operator in the high-low offensive set, either as a passer of receiver in the post. She scores on physical moves to the basket and she also stepped out and hit a 15-foot jumper.
Aliyah Williams 5’4″ Parkway North: The 2021 quickster guard scored 11 points for the Vikings. She had an off-shooting night from the perimeter, but she managed to knock down a couple of 3-pointers in the second half when the Vikings were mounting a second-half rally. When the 3-pointer isn’t falling, she can fall back on her speed and quickness to attack the basket on the bounce.
Brooke Hilton 5’9″ Parkway Central: The 2020 wing player scored 12 points and did a good job of handling the basketball and taking advantage of her opportunities on the offensive end. She had some nice takes to the basket off the dribble and she also moved well and scored on some cuts to the hoop.
Mackenzie Rhodes 5’6″ Parkway North: The 2020 lefty guard scored a game-high 12 points for the Vikings. She can get into the lane very effectively by blowing by her defender or with her change of speeds dribble to keep them off balance. She can also knock down a 3-pointer to keep the defense honest.
