Continue ReadingIn a battle on Tuesday night in the Blue Ridge Conference, Roanoke Catholic and Carlisle were facing off with Roanoke Catholic winning by a mere two points at halftime. Carlisle came out of the half on fire, managing a six-point lead to end the third quarter. With the pressure on, Roanoke Catholic came back with 28-19 run in the fourth quarter, resulting in a win over Carlisle of 62-59. This was an exciting time for Roanoke Catholic, as this was the first time winning ever on their home floor in Martinsville. In the end, it was was the following 2020 and 2022 class standouts who controlled the game:

Maggie is a 5’8″ senior who led Roanoke Catholic’s come-back in the fourth quarter scoring 13 of her 24 points. This included two of her three, 3-pointers that she had in the game. She uses her athletic ability to finish around the rim but can also step out and knock down the three. This season she is averaging 10.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game. Maggie moves across the court effectively. This, in addition, to her pure athleticism makes her a leader on the basketball team. This leadership transcends to her capabilities on the volleyball team as well.
Zya Johnson – Guard – Roanoke Catholic
Zya is a 5’5″ sophomore who assisted Maggie with a completion of 16 points in the game, including four 3-pointers. She is an exceptional shooter, shooting 63% from the three-point line this season. Be on the look out for her in the coming years as she spreads the floor and becomes a nightmare to the defense with her shooting ability.
Amara Harrell – Guard – Carlisle

Photo Credit: MartinsvillebulletinAmara is a 5’5″ sophomore who was the top scorer in the game against Roanoke Catholic; she achieved a double-double, with 28 points and 10 steals. Her speed and defensive ability kept Carlisle in the game and led to the third-quarter lead. Expect to see great things from this young athlete in her upcoming season! She has a season-high of 30 points within a game, and she is currently averaging 20.1 points and 5.7 steals per game this season. In addition, Amara shows the ability to compete across the court with averages of 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
Daisy Harris – Forward – Carlisle
5’9″ senior Daisy was the second-leading scorer for Carlisle with 14 points, consisting of 8 points solely from free throws. Assisting her team with 10 rebounds and 7 steals, she also showed optimal performance on the defensive end. Her ability to perform on the court both offensively and defensively benefited her team; keeping the score close throughout the game. Over the season, she has averaged 13.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.3 steals per game.
