At 5’7, Evans can create for herself or teammates, uses her speed at both ends of the floor and works hard to impact the game in a variety of ways.
She spent the offseason running with Next Level Eclipse Blue Star and says the experience has helped her take her game to new heights.
“Playing with them has taught me to be more aggressive, confident while playing, and has increased my basketball IQ,” she says.
One year after placing third at the Kansas 5A state championships, the 2019-20 Schlagle squad is off to a 9-4 start and have high expectations for the stretch run.
“I expect to make it back to state and accomplish more than we did last year,” Evans said. “With a new coach this year and young team we are just trusting the process and allowing everything to work out.”
Evans says her mom and Schlagle head coach Mark Western have had the biggest impact on her basketball career to date.
A fan of Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving and WNBA standout Jordin Canada Evans says she can taken away various elements of both players game and made them her own.
“I like their high IQ, the sauce to their game, and the way they can create for themselves and others,” she said.
Evans recently committed to Missouri Western and says she chose the school after her first visit to the campus.
“It instantly felt like home,” she said. “It seemed as if I had already knew the players and I loved the coaches.
“I also chose this school because it’s not too far from home so my family can still see me play but it’s still far enough for me to still get the college experience. With that being said, since we are building a new program with the new coaches I plan to bring in a winning mindset and a leader mentality to next years team & everything else will come with it.”
