A strong defender, Gilpin takes pride in her willingness to work hard every possession and being a team player who makes good decisions.
A year ago, Emporia finished the season 8-14 overall and Gilpin got an opportunity to start for the varsity as a freshman and learn the ropes and averaged around six points per game.
“I know we made a lot of young mistakes but Coach (Carolyn) Dorsey showed a lot of confidence in me, and has really helped me grow as a player,” she said. “We ended the season below .500 but lost some close games and as team, really showed improvement throughout the year. “
Gilpin spent the offseason running with Wheat State Elite and says the experience helped her game grow.
“We had a lot of success playing very competitive basketball and I really enjoyed spending time with my teammates,” Gilpin said. “I made some great friends and got to play with and against some of the most talented players in the state. Being able to play for Coach Shaelyn Martin who I watched play at KSU was really cool.”
A fan of women’s college basketball, Gilpin says she is a fan of the high level of play and anyone who shows they can shoot the ball.
A three sport athlete who also plays volleyball and softball, Gilpin says she has received information from a few colleges but no serious attention yet.
