Some have emerged through excellent junior campaigns, others are popping up at smaller schools that receive less exposure or have been injured this season, and many of them probably should have already been in the rankings to begin with.
Here are five juniors who entered the PGH Colorado rankings on Wednesday, and where they’re at with the bulk of the prep regular season in the books.
Jordynn Conner
Jordynn Conner, 5-10, SG, Denver East
Conner has emerged as perhaps Denver East’s best player and is quickly garnering more attention while leading the Angels to a 16-6 overall record thus far in 2019-20. A good athlete at 5-foot-10, Conner leads the team with 12.7 points per game and is also averaging 9.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.9 steals.
Conner hits the 2021 rankings list at No. 32.
Adrienne Harnum, 5-7, PG, Columbine
The Rebels have plenty of well-know firepower in Baum and Bollwahn, but Harnum is quickly emerging as another prospect at Columbine. The junior point guard is an excellent complement to the other two and does a bit of everything for her team. Through the majority of the 2019-20 regular season, the junior point guard has averaged 7.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
Harnum enters the PGH Colorado 2021 class rankings at No. 39.
Torie Bass, 5-4, PG, Fountain-Fort Carson
Bass is an undersized point guard with a motor that never stops and has been a boon for the Trojans, who currently boast a 20-2 record with the postseason looming. Bass is constantly on the move, and the junior has averaged 13.7 points, 4.9 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game while shooting 30 percent (35 for 116) from 3-point distance this winter.
Bass enters the rankings in the No. 42 position.
Tyler Whitlock, 5-11, SF, Holy Family
Whitlock is the Tigers’ best athlete, if not their best player, with fluid movements and good footwork at 5-foot-11. She is second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.3 points per game for the seventh-ranked Tigers, and is also good for 5.5 rebounds, 4.2 steals, three assists and nearly a block per game.
Whitlock is ranked No. 43 in the 2021 class.
Marissa Leyva
Marissa Leyva, 5-7, SG, Pueblo West
Leyva brings a lot of versatility to a Pueblo West roster that is already quite dynamic and looks like one of the few true contenders for the Class 4A crown. As a junior in 2019-20, the Cyclones guard has averaged 4.7 points, 2.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds, and has come up with some clutch shots. She is shooting 39 percent (11 for 28) from 3-point range.
Leyva enters the 2021 rankings at No. 65.
