The Indians however, swept this year’s series. In the consolation game, #3 Dade County sees #4 Gordon Central after Dade fell to Rockmart 47-44 and Gordon Central came up short against Chattooga 58-55.
2021 5-11 W Keyarah Berry – Rockmart
With Mississippi State in to see her, Keyarah Berry did what she does best – score the ball. She poured in 34 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 9 steals. Berry is an explosive athlete that turns live ball turnovers into layups. She has a nice touch at the rim and showed the ability to stop and pop from the mid-range but her shot is still inconsistent as her follow through is away from the chest and has a pushing motion instead of a clean upward protectory. Berry handles the ball fairly well in the open floor. As her jump shot and scoring in a slowed down half court setting improves, Berry will see more offers come in. Averaging over 31 points and 8 rebounds per game, Berry holds an offer from D-II Shorter but will be a D-I signee after all is said and done.
2020 5-10 W Megan Schauer – Dade County
Megan Schauer was not flashy but she was productive. The big wing capitalized on her open looks and nailed five threes en route to 17 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. She plays in an unselfish system that moves the ball around and often times she was on the receiving end of Dade County’s 12 team assists.
2020 6-0 PF Tori Williams – Dade County
Tori Williams was effective working the triangle from blocks to high post. She had a good nose for the ball and rebounded on both ends of the floor. She was able to start her own fast break on occasion. Williams did a nice job of keeping the ball high and finishing in traffic inside. She posted 9 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals.
2021 5-5 PG Faith Ann Foster – Chattooga
A quick guard with moxie, Faith Ann Foster came up big in the fourth quarter as the Indians closed out Gordon Central 58-55. Foster scored 10 of her team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter and finished with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Foster is shifty with the ball in her hands and does a nice job of getting two feet in the lane on her drives. She has a trusty pull-up from 10-feet and is a good passer in traffic. She hit three important threes in the second half and dribbled circles around the defense when running the clock out.
2020 5-5 SG Jacie Martin – Chattooga
The three-point specialist can fill it up when left open. She finished with four three-pointers, hitting a pair in the first and third quarters. Martin can space the floor and can hit from the mid-range as well. She scored 16 points – all on jumpers – and added 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block.
2023 5-8 SG Makiya Parrish – Chattooga
The freshman saw a diamond-and-one defense to slow her down. Parrish still finished with 9 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block. She had some early nerves in her first ever postseason game and never quite got settled but got more comfortable when attacking the basket. Her outside shot wasn’t falling but she made up for it with her important effort on the glass.
2021 5-6 CG Mercedes Coleman – Gordon Central
The Region 7-AA Co-Player of the Year did everything she could to carry Gordon Central. Coleman plays hard and in control. She was a good leader on the floor and never got too high or two low. In the first half she played the role of playmaker and got her teammates involved. In the second half she hunted her offense, scoring 11 of her game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter including hitting a variety of deep threes. She added 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 steal to round out her box score. Coleman hit four threes on the day but a few of them looked forced and out of the flow of the offense. She will need to improve on her ball handling to play at the next level but her streaky outside shooting makes her a dynamic scorer when hot.
