She’s the team’s leading scorer, averaging more than 31 points per game so far in the regular season, but she’s not done yet. Playoffs are just around the corner and she’s a big reason why Sahuaro has automatically qualified to the playoffs.
“I’m very excited. I never imagined hitting 2,000 this early in my career,” Brown said.
She’s currently sitting at 1,981 career points with at least one playoff game remaining this season. She would be the eighth girl from Southern Arizona to reach the milestone and would be only the 31st woman in state history to ever achieve the feat.
Brown said she is able to perform the way she does because she works on making sure she is following directions and being coachable.
“I try to focus on achieving the expectations coach sets on us and the expectations I set on myself,” Brown said.
She has a has a couple of goals set for herself within the next year that she’s looking to achieve. The first one is to set the all-time scoring record for girls basketball in Arizona. The title is currently held by former Catalina Foothills player Julie Brase, who put up a whopping 2,913 points in her career. The second is to bring Sahuaro a state championship before she leaves.
Brown have a chance to do so as Sahuaro begins the playoffs next week. She knows the games will only continue to get tougher, but that’s exactly what she’s excited about, since it will only make her better.
“I’m looking forward to playing teams of higher caliber,” Brown said.
