A sleeper is known as a player who may go unnoticed throughout the season but has had true value as a basketball player, has put up high numbers, has individual success or has had a hand in their team success.
Maddie Rosen | Sophomore | 6’0 C | Clear Lake
Helping her team to a 17-0 season, Rosen has stepped up big time both offensively and defensively. She runs the floor well and sees a lot of minutes because of her poise and patience style of play. Rosen is a beast on the boards and finds a lot of points off of put backs. Rosen is averaging 13.6 points per game this season.
Kate Benes | Senior | 5’3 PG | Lake Country Lutheran
Benes is a true point guard and everything a teammate and coach want in a player. She plays with a great tempo and leads her team so well. Benes is a communicator on the floor and can be heard yelling “play with your heart” many times throughout match-ups. She is an excellent passer and knows how to find her teammates. Averaging 20.7 points per game, Benes knows when she needs to get a bucket for her team. She dropped 42 points in a tough win over Milwaukee Academy of Science.
Kaitlyn Kundinger | Junior | 5’8 F | Auburndale
Currently averaging nearly 9 points per match-up, Kundinger has developed her game immensely this season. She has added a nice outside shooting touch and a crafty floater. Auburndale is second in their conference this season, in large part because of Kundingers pressure defense and scoring mentality.
Gracie Mattice | Junior | 5’6 G | Cudahy
A true role player for her team, Mattice is essential in the flow of Cudahy. She averages nearly 7 points per game and is an in-your-face defender. Watching Mattice play, you’ll quickly notice her communication on the floor and the bench. She knows where she should be on the floor, as well as where her teammates should be. She seems to have a high understanding for her place in the offense and spacing on the floor. Mattice dropped 9 points in a tough game against conference opponent Greenfield.
Sidney Scruggs | Sophomore | 5’5 G | Milwaukee Riverside
Scruggs is such an exciting guard to watch. She plays with so much intensity on both ends of the floor and seems very experienced for a sophomore. Playing alongside two experienced high scoring guards, a young Scruggs stepped in big time and held her own. She is averaging nearly 10 points per game and 3 rebounds per game. She finds her teammates well and has super creative passing. Scruggs dropped 21 points against Milwaukee Hamilton/Audubon.
Aubrie Hermsen | Senior | 5’7 G | Little Chute
Hermsen is a leader for her squad this season and it shows in watching her play. She is averaging 10.1 points per game for Little Chute and has dropped 18 and 17 points on two occasions this season. Hermsen is an excellent three-point shooter. She has a smooth shot and isn’t afraid to knock a shot down with a defender in her face.
Lexi Konop | Senior | 6’1 F | Sussex Hamilton
Helping her team to 3rd in the conference this season, Konop has stepped up in a major way. She uses her size inside well and is super crafty offensively. She is averaging 8.7 points per game and nearly 5 rebounds per game for Sussex Hamilton. She dropped 16 points in a huge win over West Allis Hale. Konop is someone to keep an eye on going into playoffs.
Sarah Lazar | Junior | 6’3 F | Edgewood
Lazar has a rare combination of size and skill that makes her such a dynamic player. Standing at 6’3, Lazar can handle the ball as guard and can use her strength in size to post up like a center. She really has done it all for her team this season. Lazar leads her team in scoring while averaging 11.8 points per game and 7.5 rebounds.
