It was also a rematch from a game played in December when Southern Boone to a one-point victory at the Tri-County Conference Tournament.
Host Southern Boone made it two in a row as it bested Boonville again 51-44 to take home the championship. Here is a look at the top standouts from the championship game.
Southern Boone
Gabbie Bruce: The 5’8″ 2020 guard scored a team-high 15 points to lead a very balanced scoring attack. She did an excellent job of knocking down Corner 3-pointers off of the good ball movement of her teammates. She also hit a nice short baseline jumper off the dribble when defenders closed out on her.
Lexi Ussery: A 5’2″ 2020 point guard who was the smallest player on the floor, but she made a big impact with her overall floor game and ability to lead a team. On defense, she can pressure the ball handler and hawk the basketball. She is also a very good 3-point shooter as she knocked down one off the catch and another off an excellent step back late in the first half.
Mia Crow: The 5’8″ 2021 guard was a big sparkplug off the bench with seven points, including five in the second quarter when the Eagles enjoyed their biggest lead. She scored on a nice ball fake and dribble drive move in the lane and a 25-footer at the buzzer to end the first half.
Trinity Schupp: The 5’7″ 2021 forward is an undersized center in the Eagles’ small lineup, but she more than held her own with seven points and some excellent rebounding against Boonville’s bigger front line. She had some tough buckets in the paint and she was also a good interior passer.
Boonville
Addie Brownfield: The 5’9 2022 guard scored a game-high 19 points while displaying her all-around skill set. She has long range shooting ability, whether it’s off the catch or off the dribble. She has very good handles to create her own shot and she can get into the lane for layups and short jumpers.
Kourtney Kendrick: The 5’10 2021 forward had nine points and eight rebounds. The versatile wing is a matchup problem with her skill set and physical strength. She can power her way into the lane off the dribble, especially with her go-to spin move. She can also get into the paint and post up.
Jodie Bass: A 5’9″ 2021 lefty guard who had six points and four steals on the evening. She was most effective when she was able to get to her strong hand and attack the basket. Her height and good length came in handy on the defensive end as she was able to get deflections and steals on the top of her team’s zone defense.
