A simple game against two teams playing for the fun of the sport turned into a very exciting and competitive playoff game. E.L. Hayes seemed to have the game easily under control leading 20-13 at the half and stretching the game to as many as ten points in the third. DCI kept fighting and some late game heroics by the Dragons made things very exciting in the closing minutes. In the end Hayes held on for a 37-31 victory.
Standout Players:
Michelle Mendoza – Guard – DCI – 2022
Michelle MendozaMichelle played under control throughout scoring all of her points in the third quarter. Defensively her presence was felt as she constantly put pressure on the ball.
Aliyah Satterwhite – Guard – EL Hayes – 2023
Aliyah SatterwhiteAliyah repeatedly got to the free throw line going 5 for 9 from the charity stripe. She also finished on a couple of layups but her real value was on the offensive glass where she was able to keep plays alive and extent the possession.
Donea Washington – Guard – EL Hayes – 2021
Donea WashingtonDonea led Hayes with 14 points and overall was probably the best player on the floor. She was consistent throughout and the only player in the game to score in every quarter
Valentina Fierro – Forward – DCI – 2022
Valentina FierroValentina kept the Dragons in striking range with her timely buckets and hit a huge one near the end of the game. As a matter of fact she was the only Dragon to score in the final period.
Rachel Powell-Young – Guard – DCI – 2020
Rachelle Powell-YoungRachel was the reason this was even a competitive game. She scored a game high 16 points which included five 3-pointers.
