Here, we take a look at several talented guards who have given their teams a lift in 2019-20.
Brooklynn Gilpin, G, 2021, Fort Osage
When Gilpin finds her shot from outside she can be difficult to contain. She has strong length and is physical and aggressive with the ball. She runs the floor hard and can clean up plays and rebound and block shots and force turnovers. Gilpin has a strong frame and an ability to use her size and frame to feel for openings and knock down shots. A versatile player for Fort Osage who can show up on both ends of the floor.
McKenna Lester, 5’9, G, 2021, Blue Springs South
Another guard for Blue Springs South who can contribute inside and on the perimeter. She has a good shot from three-point range and a strong frame and good shooting mechanics. Lester can create some with her dribble and has the ability to operate as a wing player, one who can switch out on defenders and can test shots and make plays in the paint.
Kate Linnemeyer, 5’8, G, 2021, Rock Bridge
Linnemeyer had good size at 5’8 and can see time is it in fender both on the perimeter and on the low and high post at times. She can come away with the ball and can handle it some and open space and looks to make adjustments and get shots off when an opportunity presents itself. She makes the most of her time on the floor and plays with passion and shows good hustle.
Audrey Maglich, 5’7, 2021, St. Michael the Archangel
A strong and quick athlete who is well conditioned and looks to get up the floor and then place. She is a strong score and can connect from three-point range and around the basket. She can handle the ball some and avoids problem areas of the floor and looks to push the tempo and create transition plays after forcing turnovers. Maglich is averaging 9.1 points, 2.3 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game after 12 games.
Kennedy Moss, G, 2021, Belton
A good ball handler who can protect the ball and find her teammates on the floor. She sees the floor well and can find openings and get inside and score. She looks to connect from a distance as well and can find her moments and score. Also an underrated rebounder and defensive player. Moss is averaging 8 points, four rebounds, one steal and two assists per game.
