Division 1 Sectionals @ Lakota East High School (Cincy 1)
Wednesday, February 12
#24 Harrison vs #22 Wilmington 5:00- this battle will be between two .500 teams looking to advance into the second round of the sectionals. Harrison was 8-12 at the draw, and will be led by 5-10 sophomore Krissy Kowalski who is averaging 15 points per game. Two other key offensive players look to contribute as McKenzie Mobley (5-6 Sr) is scoring at a rate of 9.2 points and 5-7 junior Ava Tombragel comes in at just over seven. Wilmington was .500 when the draw took place, and will be led by senior Jasmine Jamiel, an electric guard who can score and run the show for the Hurricane. A pair of key freshman will be instrumental in the programs continued growth as Sophie Huffman is a guard pouring in eight points and four assists per game, and is truly a dynamic playmaker. Katie Murphy is another freshman averaging just over eight and is a key part to their success. The winner of this game will play #4 seed Princeton who took a bye. Jill Phillips’ squad has plenty of weapons to choose from, including 5-8 senior Ashley Davis (11.9), 5-8 freshman Sole Williams (11.8), 5-6 senior Willow White (9.3) and 6-6 sophomore Kyla Oldacre (8.6).
#18 Western Brown vs #20 Colerain 6:30- Baylee Jones, a junior guard leads Western Brown into this game, averaging 14.1 points and is third in the Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference in steals per game with 3.1. Senior Emma Sams is a post player averaging close to nine, and 5-6 sophomore Becky Roberlo-Solis is also contributing close to seven points per game. Colerain comes in led by 5-10 sophomore Abaigeal McNally scoring 13.5 points per game, and she gets help from 5-9 senior Aliyah Casson (10.9) and 5-9 sophomore Kiley McNally who is averaging close to eight.
#27 St. Ursula vs #5 Walnut Hills 8:00- It has been a rough year for St. Ursula with only five wins at the draw, but it would be a huge boost if they can upset Walnut Hills in the opening round. St. Ursula brings in 5-7 junior Shamia Strayhorn who is averaging 15.1 points per game, while 5-8 sophomore Emily Domingo is at nearly eight. Both players will need some of the role players to step up to compete and advance. Walnut Hills as usual is solid at 16-3 overall, and they have three impressive weapons who work off each other well. Sean Kelly Darks is a 5-10 senior averaging 19 points per game an did their floor leader. Darian Burgin is a 5-6 senior scoring at a rate of 16.0 points, while 5-7 senior Aniyah Brown comes in at 13 points per game.
