These two teams feature some of the top talent from the entire Orlando area. Apopka is led by their senior backcourt of Mary McMillan (UNCW commit) & Hilani Cantone (Arkansas State commit). Timber Creek (22-7) is led by a trio of bigs: Savannah Henderson ‘22, Colleen Shanahan ‘21 & Zora Fray-Chinn ‘21.
Apopka jumped out to an early 9-5 lead in the 1st before Timber Creek started to assert their dominance inside by taking advantage of Apopka’s much smaller frontcourt. Timber Creek scored 6 straight to close out the half and take a 21-14 lead into the break.
Juniors Tatiana Ortiz & Zora Fray-Chinn started the 3rd quarter off hot by combining for 11 points in the quarter. After an impressive 19-point 3rd quarter, Timber Creek was up 40-19 after 3.
Apopka’s senior backcourt struggled to get anything going for the duration of the night, and Timber Creek slipped into cruise control and got the 47-25 win. They will be on the road again Friday night against Spruce Creek in the regional final. Apopka finishes the successful season with a record of 24-4.
Player Spotlights:
Apopka Blue Darters (24-4)
Hilani Cantone – 2020 Arkansas State Signee: Hilani finished the night with 10 points including 2 threes. She also had the tough task of defending highly touted 2022 Savannah Henderson, holding her to 4 points.
Timber Creek Wolves (22-7)
Colleen Shanahan – 6’0” 2021: Colleen dominated inside all night long finishing with 12 points. She showcased a strong drop step and finish around the basket. She also controlled the boards on both ends of the glass. A true post player with good upside.
Zora Fray-Chinn – 5’11” 2021: Zora was unstoppable inside and out. A long, athletic wing that caused matchup problems all night long to finish with 16 points. Hitting two 3s & getting to the basket with ease.
2020 Unsigned Seniors:
Jourdan Avery – Timber Creek 5’5” Combo Guard: Good defender, can get to the rim, rebounds well for her size
KT Thompson – Apopka 5’7” Guard: Athletic wing that can slash and shoot from long range
