Two hot games at the WCAC semi’s with St. John’s College vs Bishop McNamara and Paul VI vs Bishop O’Connell sandwiched in between to good boys games. The stakes are high with a trip to the WCAC Finals on the line. Lots of quality players across the board we will take a look at the top guards we’ve seen in the building.
Top Guards at Bender Arena:
Yonta Vaughn – 5’7″ – Bishop McNamara – 2022
Yonta VaughnYonta was money from beyond the arc. She hit a 3-pointer in each quarter on her way to 12 points. She guided her team as was superb in crunch time getting the Mustangs offense setup while dishing out 12 assists. Yonta’s play is a big reason why the Mustangs are headed back to the championship game.
Azzi Fudd – 5’11” – St. John’s – 2021
Azzi FuddYou get used to a certain level of play when you see Azzi play and as expected she brought her bag with her. She led her team with 14 points after ending the first quarter scoreless. After an eight point second quarter you started to get the feeling that this was once again she would lead the Cadets to the championship game. However, her six second half wasn’t enough to get to another finals
Alyssa Hayashi -5’6″ – Bishop O’Connell – 2020
Alyssa HayashiAlyssa led her team with 8 points in a losing effort, however, there was plenty of effort put out as the senior played on both ends as if she didn’t want her season to end. Even as the time winded down with a double digit deficit she was still looking to deflect passes on defense.
Isabella Perkins – 5’9″ – Paul V1 – 2021
Isabella PerkinsIsabella was probably the most impressive player of the day despite scoring all of her game high 14 points in only two quarters. She was all over the floor showing of a good touch and great vision. She will definitely play a big role if the Panthers are to defeat the Mustangs in the championship game.
Caramina Tanedo – 5’9″ – St. John’s – 2020
Caramina TanedoCaramina is one of the best shooters in the DMV period. I know it and the Mustangs knew it throwing players at her every time she got free. It opened things up for for her teammates as she was able to find her teammates for open looks play after play. She attacked the basket well and got to the line several times where she was perfect from the stripe.
Faith Alston – 5’9″ – Paul VI – 2020
Faith AlstonFaith played the point guard to perfection. She had 10 points and a bunch of assists but, what was most impressive was her ability to see the entire floor and see plays develop before players get in place. She has a knack of making the right play whether it’s the pass or the shot.
Maikya Simmons – 5’7″ – Bishop O’Connell – 2020
Maikya SimmonsMaikya had a couple of nice buckets and a very high level pull up jumper near the end of the game. She had a good WCAC run and will do well at the next level.
