The visiting Greyhounds were able to stay with Westminster for much of the first half and had the score tied 19-19 at one point. Westminster then closed the half on a 12-2 run to take a 31-21 lead at halftime en route to a 51-39 victory.
Here is a look at the Top Five Stars from the Westminster-Clayton game:
No. 1 Star: Brooke Highmark (Westminster) – The 5’7″ 2022 combo guard put in a strong effort with a game-high 17 points. She displayed scoring ability at all three levels as she had nice takes to the bucket while knocking down a trio of 3-pointers. She is tough on the dribble and she can beat her defender by going either left or right while also being able to change speeds. She is also an excellent passer.
No. 2 Star: Riley Brophy (Westminster) – The 5’6″ 2022 point guard scored 15 points and put on an impressive shooting display from long distance. The smooth lefty knocked down four 3-pointers on the evening. She also handled the ball for much of the evening and did a good job facilitating the offense and finding open teammates.
No. 3 Star: Sarah Litteken (Clayton): The 5’8″ 2020 guard was Clayton’s top player on the evening with a team-high 15 points. She showed a nice touch from distance as she made 3-pointers, but I was also impressed with her willingness to attack the basket on several occasions. Whether she just put her head down and went downhill and used her change of speeds, she was very effective at getting to the bucket.
No. 4 Star: Julia Coleman (Westminster): The 5’11” 2023 forward had a nice game off the bench as she scored eight points and impacted the action on the defensive end with his length and athleticism. She scored on a couple of good post moves inside where she used the backboard and she ran the court well in transition for a couple of buckets on the break. Her upside is pretty substantial.
No. 5 Star: Carlie Vick (Westminster) – The 6’2″ 2022 post player scored nine points and had an effect at both ends of the floor. She scored on a nice jump hook in the post and she also stepped outside to hit a pair of jumpers from the elbow to showcase her range. She is an excellent shot blocker who uses her size and sense of timing to get her share of swats.
