Alexis Davis, Glassboro: Who? If you live in the northern part of New Jersey, chances are you have never heard of Davis. But there are plenty of players in South Jersey who will testify that the 5-11 Davis belongs in the freshman of the year conversation. Her team is 17-2 and her numbers are eye-popping — 23 points and 12 rebounds per night.
Ally Landau, Golda Och: Rightfully so, player of the year will go to someone who leads their team to a state championship, but is there anyone in New Jersey more valuable to their squad than Landau? Her stats almost look fake. For starters, she’s only 5-3 so how does she pull down almost 14 rebounds per game? She leads the state in points (32 per game) and steals (8.7) and despite the lofty scoring numbers, still finds time to hand out 6.5 dimes a night. Wow.
Nia Melvin, Stuart Day: Stuart Day is one of the hottest teams in the state (11 straight wins) and their recent run of success starts and stops with the play of their dynamic point guard. She is a lock-down defender, averaging 4.1 steals to go with 5.5 assists and 13.4 points per game.
Madison Schiller, Ramapo: Schiller has emerged as the heart and soul of a Ramapo team that is off to a surprising 18-2 start this season. The sophomore is averaging careers highs in points (16 per game), assists (5.2 per game) and steals (4.8 per game).
Caileigh Walsh, Gill St. Bernard’s: In a state full of quality post players, Walsh is enjoying a better season than just about all of them. The 6-4 junior has led her team to a 12-8 record, including six victories in a row. She can score in the paint or on the perimeter and her shot blocking and rebounding numbers are up there with the league leaders.
