All-Freshmen First Team
Tyonna Bailey, Morris Catholic: The 5-10 forward has been a scoring and rebounding machine since Day 1. Her team didn’t win as much as the other four members on the first team, but it was hard to ignore her all-around production on both ends of the court.
Zoe Brooks, Trenton Catholic: Although she comes off the bench, it’s impossible not to see her importance to the No. 1 team in New Jersey. The Iron Mikes have played the most difficult schedule in the state, and Brooks has helped them close out their biggest wins.
Alexis Davis, Glassboro: The 5-10 Davis has been the top freshmen in the state. She has amassed over 500 points, while pulling down over 12 rebounds a game. She blocks shots, hands out dimes and gets steals, too, for Glassboro, which is 21-2. Wow!
Aaylah Del Rosario, Trenton Catholic: As impressive as her numbers are – 12 points, 12 rebounds and almost 3 blocks a game – imagine if the 6-5 center was on the floor more than half a game. TCA blows out most of its opponents so Del Rosario and the rest of the starters spend a lot of time on the bench cheering the reserves.
Hannah Hidalgo, Paul VI: Best way to gauge Hidalgo’s worth to Paul VI? Her team is undefeated (20-0) when she’s healthy and 0-2 when she isn’t. She is one of the top points guards in New Jersey regardless of grade.
All-Freshmen Second Team
Aaryn Battle, Clearview: Is there anything that Battle doesn’t do well? She is a lock-down defender, who also handles the ball, rebounds and gets buckets for a Clearview team, which is off to a 21-2 start this season.
Rylee Drahos, Shore: She has been the best freshmen in the toughest conference (Shore) in New Jersey. Drahos hung 25 points on St. Rose and 14 on Manasquan. She also cracked double digits against Red Bank Catholic.
Kyla Glasser-Hyman, Hightstown: She is a walking bucket, scoring in double digits 17 times this season. She has scored over 20 points five times and also gets after it on defense, averaging almost four thefts per game.
Brynn McCurry, Sparta: She is a double-double machine for a Sparta squad which has been way better than expected. She has 13 double-doubles and her careers highs are 31 points and 16 rebounds for the Spartans, who have only tasted defeat four times.
Rylie Theuerkauf, Tenafly: We normally put a premium on winning, but despite Tenafly’s poor record, we couldn’t leave Theuerkauf off the list. She has already scored over 400 points. Her best performance? She lit Dwight Morrow up for 11 three pointers en route to a career-high 41 points.
