Christ Church ( 23 – 5 )
VS
North Charleston ( 21 – 9 )
Friday March 6 – 3:30 PM
Christ Church is looking to make it 2 State Championships in a row after beating Mullins in a very tight & exciting affair last March. North Charleston is led by a great group of Seniors that are looking to go out on top.
- Which Senior Guard is going to have a bigger impact on the game? – North Charleston – Guard – Ca’Vashia Johnson or Christ Church – Guard – Marissa Powe.
I am looking for both of these Guards to have a great day in leading their teams to a potential Championship, Marissa Powe has been here before and was able to lead her team in scoring after 2022 – Wing – McCall King McCall King 5'11" | SG Christ Church | 2022 State SC fouled out of the game last year. Marissa is a veteran that is averaging 14.3 Pts per game this year and has been able to expand her game, she is ready to play at University of Chicago next fall. North Charleston is led by Point Guard – Ca’Vashia Johnson, she is a very talented player on both sides of the floor, she can score at all 3 levels and is averaging 13.6 Pts per game and can be a lockdown defender as well. Ca’Vashia is one of the most talented passers in the state of South Carolina, when they get into the pick & roll you will see her find the best available shooter for 2 points.
- Can Senior – Forward – Sophia Simmons – From North Charleston – Outscore – Christ Church – Sophomore – Wing – McCall King McCall King 5'11" | SG Christ Church | 2022 State SC ? – or do enough to Win the game.
Sophia Simmons has performed at a high level her senior year at North Charleston, she has averaged 11.7 Pts per game so far this season but has really stepped it up Big Time during the SCHSL State payoffs. Sophia is coming off a 22 Pt performance in the Lower State Championship game vs Latta which was a big eye opener for me, she is going to need another Big scoring game if they plan on going home with this Championship. McCall King McCall King 5'11" | SG Christ Church | 2022 State SC is making her 2nd straight appearance in the Championship game and looking to not foul out this time…. The dynamic scorer is a threat from anywhere on the court and will be a point of emphasis for N. Charleston Coach Haley Weed and her defense. King is known for her “In the gym range” shooting ability but has added so much to her game over the last 18 months, she has improved her handle and agility so that she can score from all parts of the court. King surpassed the 1000 Point plateau this year while playing in Atlanta at the “She Got Game” Showcase.
- Can anyone prevent Yasmene Clark from being a force on the court for Christ Church.
Freshman – 5’10” – Forward – Yasmene Clark is a force on the court, she is a hybrid player that can score it on the block, has a mid-range shot and also stretches the floor with a 3-Ptr that is very consistent. This young lady has really made this Christ Church team more versatile throughout her freshman year, she is really a Big Guard that is able to score below the free throw line and with her back to the basket. I would expect North Charleston to assign 2021 – 6’0” – Post – Tranell Mitchell-Smalls to her so that she can protect the rim against Yasmene’s ability to score on the inside. This may prove to be the key to the game because other players will need to help on defense and also rebound to make sure there is only 1 shot taken by Christ Church.
