Continue ReadingWith our second update to the 2021 rankings comes some movement (primarily due to injuries) but also we’ve expanded from 50 to 75 ranked players and some have really moved up the rankings after great Junior seasons. Here’s a look at the newly updated top 10.
Brooklynn Miles Brooklynn Miles 5'6" | PG Franklin County | 2021 State #48 Nation KY , Franklin County – Miles keeps her spot at the top of the class and probably further solidifies that position with her tremendous Junior season and injuries to her closest competition. While she is an explosive scorer at nearly 22 points per game, Brooklynn’s biggest asset may be her incredible on ball defense. The defensive end is where she shines when playing on the Girls EYBL in the spring and summer. She has a boatload of scholarship offers and will be a high major signee when the time comes.
Macey Blevins Macey Blevins 5'11" | SG Wayne County | 2021 State KY , Wayne County – If you are looking for an MVP in the class, Blevins is probably the one. When she missed time at the start of the season, Wayne struggled mightily. They not only lost multiple games but struggled to score the ball at all. Once Macey returned, the Lady Cards started winning games and Blevins started putting up big numbers right away. She ended her Junior year with 21 points and 8 rebounds per game and got to the free throw line 5 times per game. She has a bunch of D1 offers already and should be a mid major D1 signee at worst when signing day rolls around.
Harley Paynter Harley Paynter 5'7" | CG Boyd County | 2021 State KY , Boyd County – The only player in the top ten who has already picked her college destination, Harley is headed to Morehead State after her high school days are over. Paynter led Boyd with 22 points and 7.9 rebounds per game and put up very good shooting splits of 45/38/76. Harley is one of the best shooters in the class and continues to improve in the other aspects of her game. In her first season as the go-to scorer for the Lady Lions, she proved more than capable of carrying the load.
Marissa Gasaway Marissa Gasaway 6'0" | PF Silver Creek | 2021 State IN , Eastern – The Lady Eagles struggled this season but it wasn’t due to lack of effort from Gasaway. Averaging 17 points and 14 rebounds per game, Marissa continues to be one of the best players in Louisville regardless of the graduating class. Gasaway struggled with her shooting percentages but faced double and triple teams all season. If she can add some stretch to her game and be a competent outside shooter, her college stock could soar.
Tiarra East Tiarra East 5'11" | PF Butler | 2021 State KY , Butler – Tiarra doesn’t have the most amazing stats but that’s part of playing on a very good team where several players make a big impact. She’s already holding multiple mid major D1 offers and should add more as her career moves along. East led Butler in scoring and rebounding this season and her stock can make a big jump moving forward if she becomes a better shooter from the perimeter.
Elise Ellison-Coons Elise Ellison-Coons 5'10" | SF Dunbar | 2021 State KY , Dunbar – One of the more versatile prospects in the class, Ellison-Coons had a huge Junior season, making big strides in her game over the last year since we first posted these rankings. Elise averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds per game while posting 44/39/76 shooting splits. Her shooting from deep is especially impressive after she shot a low percentage in her Sophomore season. Moving forward, Ellison-Coons projects as a mid major plus or even high major recruit.
Brie Crittendon Brie Crittendon 5'9" | SG Ryle | 2021 State KY , Ryle – Brie made big strides as a Junior. She took the opportunity for a bigger role and ran with it, averaging a team high 16 points and 6 rebounds per game and proving that after Maddie Scherr Maddie Scherr 5'11" | CG Ryle | 2020 State KY graduates, it will be Crittendon’s team. Ryle is in the middle of a tremendous run of talent and Brie is the latest D1 player in the program as she has multiple scholarship offers heading into her Senior year. If the Sweet 16 ever gets to conclude, she could be a two time state champion before her Senior year.
Hayley Caudill Hayley Caudill 5'6" | PG Knott County Central | 2021 State KY , Hazard – Our lone representative from the mountains in the 2021 Top 10, Caudill is a tough as nails point guard who led the Bulldogs in scoring and shooting percentage while being second on the team in rebounding despite her small stature. Hayley is solidly the second best point guard in the class behind Miles and should be a no-brainer scholarship level player by the time she graduates.
Marie Kiefer Marie Kiefer 6'2" | C Bishop Brossart | 2021 State KY , Bishop Brossart – A walking double-double, Kiefer averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game this season and continues to improve as she gets more physical in the paint. Marie is going to continue impressing college coaches and should be a D1 signee by this time next year. Shooting 54% from the field is great but perhaps even more impressive is that Kiefer shot 38% from three in limited attempts but that shows she can definitely stretch her game out behind the three point line and that likely boosts her college stock even more.
Mya Meredith Mya Meredith 5'10" | SF Scott | 2021 State KY , Scott – Formerly the #2 player in the class, Mya tumbled due to missing the season with an injury. Her impact can be seen in the lack of wins for Scott and the hope is that she will be back to 100% and ready to make a push for Rupp in her Senior season. Meredith already has multiple D1 scholarship offers and, when healthy, is likely the best pure scorer in the state.
