Here, Prep Girls Hoops takes a look at several players who stood out at the event, with a look here at several forwards who impressed.
To recap the quarterfinal scores, Nickerson beats Buhler, 63-36; KC Piper 63 got past Baldwin 48; Clay Center Community defeated Eudora, 47-42; and Bishop Miege defeated Chapman 60-45.
Josephine Boyle, 5’10, G/F, 2020, Baldwin
An active-two-way threat for teams as she can defend well and score in bunches. She’s aggressive and competitive and worked hard and played fast. Boyle added seven points and eight rebounds in the game against Piper and showed good leadership and creativity inside and out. Boyle is good at coming away with steals and also looks to share the ball and get her teammates involved.
Alyvia Owens Alyvia Owens 6'0" | PF Buhler | 2020 State KS , 5’10, F, 2020, Buhler
A nice post presence inside for Buhler who adds size, strength and overall physicality. She looks to contest shots and rebound first, but she can also score and make plays offensively. Owens led her team in rebounds with nine and added four points as well. She’s an interesting two-way player who also looks to score from 3-point range at times.
Kara Stutterheim, F, 2020, Buhler
An aggressive forward inside who looks to contest shots, fight through contact and score around the basket. She plays inside a lot and stands well against stronger and taller opponents inside on both ends of the floor. Stutterheim scored six points in Buhlers loss to powerhouse Nickerson.
Ali Vigil Ali Vigil 5'11" | SF Kansas City-Piper | 2020 State KS , 5’11, F, 2020, Piper
A long athlete who can stretch the floor with her outside shooting and move inside and score, collect rebounds and contest shots on defense. She has a soft touch to her shot but is also capable of making an impact off the ball. An interesting prospect with size and skill. Vigil finished with eight points and a team-high six rebounds against Baldwin.
Ayreona Carter Ayreona Carter 6'0" | SF Kansas City-Piper | 2020 State KS , 6’0, C, 2020, Piper
Carter had an impressive game on both ends of the floor looking to protect the basket and score around the glass. She is active in a variety of ways and has good athleticism and good hops and length which allows her to protect the basket at a high level. Carter had five points, five rebounds and a game-high five blocks against Baldwin.
