The class is shaping up to be solid overall and there are several players that are right on track to play at the Division 1 level. Each of the top five players will have a multitude of college options when it is all said and done with the exact level (MM or HM) to be determined for some.
Class of 2022: Top 5
1: 6’2 SF Drea Brumfield Drea Brumfield 6'2" | SF WF West | 2022 State #72 Nation WA (WF West HS)
- No movement for the number one slot. Drea has all the tools to work with as a skilled wing that can truly play multiple positions on both sides of the ball. She is a Pac-12 level recruit and could see her recruitment take that next big jump with a summer on the shoe circuit with Tommy James’ Tree of Hope program.
2: Avery Watkins Avery Watkins 6'1" | SF Kennedy Catholic | 2022 State WA (Kennedy Catholic HS)
- The number two slot remains the same as well with this 6’1 slasher. Avery averaged just a hair under 20 points and 10 rebounds per game in her sophomore season. She is hearing from schools in several conferences and will have an opportunity to solidify her level of recruitment with a strong Spring and Summer with Steve Klees’ NW Blazers program.
3: Zahirah Walton Zahirah Walton 5'11" | SG Kentlake | 2022 State WA (Eastside Catholic HS)
- For a list with multiple naturally gifted players, Zahirah may be the most naturally gifted of them all. She is a fluid athlete with natural instincts for both sides of the ball. One of the more impressive individual performances I saw at the state tourney was her 20 point, 17 rebounds effort dominating Seattle Prep’s wings. She has a midrange pull-up, but expanding on her perimeter game is something I would love to see, although she is more than capable of playing on the outside. If she makes herself a consistent threat from the three line, she will be the ultimate matchup nightmare. Zahirah will once again be playing with Buck Buchanan’s Northwest Greyhounds.
4: 6’0 SG Jada Wynn Jada Wynn 6'0" | SG Troy | 2022 State CA (King’s HS)
- Jada’s season was very short due to injury, but she remains a good college recruit with a strong frame and the ability to hit the outside shot. She is skilled, strong and values possession of the ball on the offensive end. Hopefully she will be back strong and healthy by the time Summer ball comes around.
5: 6’4 C Camille Jentzsch Camille Jentzsch 6'4" | C Lake Stevens | 2022 State WA (Lake Stevens HS)
- A strong post with a throwback, back to the basket game. Cam has good hands and wide shoulders to hold her position in the post. She cleans up the boards really well in her area and she has enough skill to knock down the 12-15 footer. She has schools from multiple conferences on her and her recruitment will continue to take shape as she moves up into the older brackets after helping the NW Blazers 15u team to a second place finish at Nationals.
