The rebounding battle is one that can decide a game and some of these stars in the Class of 2022 can blow up a game on the glass. Here are the top rebounders in the sophomore class from this past season.
Anisha Able | Barringer
The state’s leading rebounder was apart of the Class of 2022 at Barringer. She notched double-doubles in all but one game this season and had nine 20 rebound performances. Able averaged 18.3 rebounds per contest during her sophomore campaign. Able had the size and instincts to be a great rebounder and that will continue over the course of her career.
Riley Feichtl | Sussex Tech
There are not many 25 rebound games at any level of basketball but Feichtl was able to accomplish that feat in a January win over Somerset Tech. She grabbed 13.1 rebounds per game and was known to crash the boards on both ends of the floor.
Janai Hawley | Leonia
Hawley finished with double-digit rebounds in all but one game this season. She was not a big scorer during her sophomore season but she was an elite rebounder. Hawley was able to control a game on the glass and be a rim protector on the defensive end.
Jamiyah Alston | Piscataway Tech
Alston missed time at the beginning of the season. She played in 17 games in the second half and dominated the boards. She grabbed double-digit rebounds in 12 games and averaged 12.6 per game. Piscataway Tech missed their enforcer down low and they were a much better team when she was on the floor.
Ismel Martinez | New Brunswick
It was a tough season for New Brunswick but Martinez gave them something to be positive about. As a sophomore, Martinez emerged as a defensive star and showed that she can score a little. Martinez was an elite rebounder and averaged over three steals per game as well. Her prowess on the offensive end will continue to get better as she grows as a player. New Brunswick has a star for the next two seasons.
