Class of 2023: Initial Rankings
The freshman class in Washington is an exciting bunch and we are very excited to drop the initial rankings for the youngest group of current high schoolers. A watch list was released in later 2019, but after watching several club games last Spring and Summer, high school games all Winter and state playoffs this Spring, it is an appropriate time to post an initial rankings list.
2023 Early Outlook:
There is a lot of promise for this freshman class. When you look at the major impact from day one that so many of these players had at the varsity level, it is impressive to say the least. Many of the top players have been brought up through the state’s travel ball system and it has greatly benefited them, as the challenge of going up against high school girls two, three or four years older than them did not strike much fear. This group has a mixture of speed at the guard position, length and skill on the wing and some players with size that could pan out to be very good college prospects. Overall, I would say the 2023 class has superior talent to the 2021 and 2022 groups at the same stage. There is a lot of time between now and graduation, but there is a reason so many of these girls are already on Division 1 college coaches’ radars.
Note on Rankings:
This is an initial list. Every season more and more college prospects are being developed and identified. 20-25 girls from Washington move on to play Division 1 basketball for the typical year. Around double digit girls move on to play Division 2 and several go Division 3, NAIA and JUCO as well. More players of all levels will continue to be added over the course of the next 3.5 years.
