For the class of 2024, they’ve been biding their time before they officially get to step on a high school floor. Some of them have played AAU already, some have participated in camps and showcases. Here’s a look at some of the incoming freshmen who I’ve been able to see play who might have a big impact in their first year of high school basketball.
1. Serenity Johnson
When I first watched Johnson play, she was playing against older players at WCE event. She looked very comfortable despite being one of the youngest players there. She can act as a team’s primary ball-handler. In transition, she’s constantly looking to make the right pass. One strong suit of her game is her three-point shooting. She can face up and knock down three-point shots with defenders in her face.
2. Addison Deal Addison Deal 5'10" | CG Mater Dei | 2025 State CA
The first time I saw Deal play, what stood out the most was how advanced her offensive moves were for a player her age. She looked very comfortable with the ball in her hands making plays. She’s got a very complete game. Can put the ball on the floor and attack the rim. She can also shoot well from the three-point line. Good size. Certainly a player to watch out for.
3. Devyn Kiernan
The younger sister of Mater Dei senior Camryn Kiernan, when I saw Devyn play she was in the same mold as her sister. That is a glue type/utility player who can do a little bit of everything on the court. She’s an incredibly hard worker who isn’t afraid to make the hustle plays such as diving on the court for a loose ball. She has already has a solid three-point shot.
4. Shea Joko
When I saw Joko, she looked like she had the tools to be a solid point guard at the high school level. She runs the offense well, especially in the half court. She looks for her teammates and makes the right pass. Knows when to look to score. She has a solid shot from long-range. She can step into her shot on a spot up or pull up for a jumper on the break.
