Middleton is coming off a close victory over Verona. The number one team in the state advanced to the sectional round with a 68-65 win. Middleton is 23-1 on the season and has been the team to beat. Sitori Tanin leads her team in scoring and continued to be successful during regionals. She finished with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Karina Bursac added 13 points for her team.
Janesville Craig beat #5 Sun Prairie to advance to sectionals. The team won 40-27. Craig has been improving each game this season and has the offensive ability to be the team to stop Middleton. Their scoring is spread out which makes for a really hard team to scout. Claudia Fierias led all scores in the win with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Rileigh Eglas added 10 points.
#3 Waunakee vs #2 Madison Memorial
Wauankee finished their regional run with a huge 75-35 victory over #6 Badger. The team plays a high paced offense and enters the game averaging 60 points per game as a team. In the win over Badger, Elena Maier had a huge game. She finished with 23 points for her team, 6 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. Brooke Ehle finished with 13 points and shot 3-5 from three.
KapniusMadison Memorial enters the game after a nice win over Madison La Follette. The team finished 77-5o in the victory. 23-1 on the season, Madison Memorial has played impressive basketball all season. They are quick on both ends of the floor, run a trapping press breaker and are super hard to defend. In the regional win, 6’1 senior forward Reette Thorns had a game high 20 points. Senior guard and Penn State commit LeiLani Kapinus added 19 points. A high low duo like those two is going to be hard to beat..
McNeal#3 Milwaukee King vs #2 Oconomowoc
Milwaukee King had an impressive game over a tough Hamilton squad. The team finished with a 65-59 victory. Leading the Milwaukee City- Gold conference all year, King has played some very tough games. They’ve improved offensively this season and have really found their pressure defensively. With a deep rotating bench, King will be tough to beat. In the regional game Syracuse commit Khamya McNeal finished with 23 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. She’s an exceptionally talented player and very hard to stop inside. Imani Colon finished with 11 points.
Oconomowoc advanced to the sectional round after a 78-10 blow out against Milwaukee Pulaski Co-op. Oconomowoc plays great basketball and is a really fun team to watch. They run the ball well in transition and find each other open well. In the regional final game, senior guard and leading scorer Olivia Sobczak had a perfect shooting night for her team. She finished with a game high 29 points in the win. She’s quick, athletic and has an eye for her shot. She has a quick pull up jumper and a hesitation dribble drive that is super tough to defend. Elizabeth Cleary added 8 points.
Cera#4 Kettle Moraine vs #1 Mukwonago
Mukwonago enters sectionals after a close game against #8 Franklin. The team finished the game with a 38-25 win. Mukwonago has a 22-2 record this season and is very talented defensively. In their regional final win, senior guard and one of the best scorers in the state, Angie Cera led all scorers with 10 points and went 2-0 from the field. Sarah Pavletich finished with 8 points.
Kettle Moraine beat a very good Oak Creek team to advance into sectionals. The team won 53-43. The squad had an 18-6 record this season but has been playing great basketball this playoff season. In the regional game there was balanced and impressive scoring throughout the team. Madeline Siedenburg, post player, finished with 14 points. She’s a highly athletic player who has great inside- out game. Braelyn Torres and Grace Grocholski added 11 points each respectively.
