One of Georgia’s most prestigious programs with numerous future pros and coaches that went through the pipeline, the Metros have their sights set on the next batch of brand ambassadors as the 2020 travel season quickly approaches. Here are some quick notes from Sunday’s open run.
Guard Play in Good Hands
The top two guards in attendance looked like 2021 5-10 Cheyenne Holloman Cheyenne Holloman 5'10" | CG Pope | 2021 State GA (Pope) and 2022 5-7 Bridget Utberg Bridget Utberg 5'6" | PG Woodstock | 2022 State GA (Woodstock). The two could form an exciting backcourt. Holloman is a big guard with a physical frame that makes her impact felt in multiple areas. She does a good job of using her strength to defend smaller guards and keep them out of the lane. Offensively, Holloman is a skilled passer and a good shooter from range. The lefty can create her own offense off the dribble whether it be creating separation for jumpers or using her size to get to the basket.
2021 5-11 PG @cheyennehollom1 (@ladyhoundsbb) has looked good today. Big body guard that uses her size to stay in front of ball handlers. Lefty can hit the three and finish with either hand inside. Works the ball screen here for an assist. @Georgia_Metros pic.twitter.com/Rw8fakGJ3Q

Utberg is a quick guard that is highlight material in the open floor. She’s good in transition but also can run an offense in the half court. She’s a dangerous three-point shooter, although on Sunday her shots all hit the front rim. Utberg has quick hands on defense and makes good decisions on the fly when assessing opposing defenses.
Bigs
2021 6-0 C Taylor Christmas Taylor Christmas 6'2" | PF Southwest DeKalb | 2021 State GA (Southwest DeKalb) displayed her skill set. The big physically built post with a strong upper body is nimble on her feet with good footwork inside and the ability to make some quick moves on the perimeter. She knocked down a few threes on trail opportunities, stretching out opposing posts that weren’t expecting her range.
2022 6-5 C Saniya Jones (Duluth) was one of the rawest posts in attendance but with her size, mobility and overall length, she could have the highest upside if someone works with her over the next two years. Jones has breath taking size and game altering long arms. She is not a threat to score outside of five-feet and needs work on her offensive game, but if she can rebound and keep her hands straight up on defense, she will be more than effective at the high school level. She did a nice job of keeping rebounds high and not fouling on defense. Jones ran rim to rim with no problem and can play in an up-tempo game if need be. Getting more reps and working on some basic post moves will help her a lot. She is still young and if she can put it all together, she could become an intriguing project at the college level.
Out of State Talent
Kyla Abraham defends [player_tooltip player_id="118127" first="Taylor" last="Christmas"]2022 6-5 C Kyla Abraham (Choctawhatchee, FL) had strong moments throughout the day. The big post gets on the glass and can finish around the rim. She didn’t get a ton of post-up opportunities but she drew attention when she was around the basket. She is a block to block big with a bright future. Though touches were limited at times, her defense was consistent. Abraham swatted away a handful of shots whenever she was tested inside.
2023 5-10 W Dy’Neka Roberts (Denmark-Olar, SC) showed flashed of how she averaged 13 points and 13 rebounds as a freshman. She is an athletic high-motor swingman that can do a little bit of everything. Roberts showed the ability to ignite the fast break and pass on the run while also defending at a high level. She will need to improve her outside shot and polish her game up some, but she’s on the way to becoming a very well-rounded player.
