With that said, over the next few weeks, I will be looking at many of the top players around Ohio, to break down their game and discuss their skills for college coaches and fans alike. Some of them you will know, others you will get to know.
Each week, a different section around Ohio will be featured with a look at the key players from the 2021-2023 classes with a breakdown of their game and a look at what their strengths are. In a time where players are not going to be out on the area courts and with no college interaction and exposure, it is important to allow them to have their game known by those at the next level.
Today, I will start looking at some of the key sophomores from the Northwest Ohio region. Many players from that region have proven to advance their game to the next level, and this group looks like they will continue their success.
Northwest Ohio Key Sophomores
Ellie Gabel, 5-6 New Knoxville- excellent floor leader and does a great job running the offense. Good ball handler and strong decision maker. One of her strengths is her ability to score from beyond the arc. Still learning the game but has a high motor and continues to be a key factor in her teams success.
Marisa Seiler, 5-9 Wauseon- Good range out beyond the arc, quick shot off the pass. Can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. Good north-south player, can score in transition. Excellent court awareness, smart heady player with a good court IQ. Does a good job anticipating on defense.
Claudia Pifher Claudia Pifher 5'9" | CG Buckeye Central | 2022 State OH , 5-8 New Washington Buckeye Central- Her grown her game from being a set shooter and now has added to her arsenal with added dimensions to her game. Can put the ball on the floor and attack the basket well, not settling for just the jump shot. Claudia has good size and strength to guard essentially every spot on the floor minus a quick, athletic point guard. Very good passer, much improved.
Alysia Lawson Alysia Lawson 5'7" | CG Toledo Bowsher | 2028 OH , 5-7 Toledo Bowsher- excellent footspeed and ball control, can get by her defender and score at the rim. Good floater and finisher. Quick hands on defense, can cause turnovers and create off her defense. Excellent anticipation on defense, can read the play. Able to play through contact. Does have solid range. Moves well with the ball, can separate and score.
Olivia Baker Olivia Baker 5'8" | CG Shelby | 2022 State OH , 5-8 Soph., Shelby- much improved from the perimeter, shooting 40% from behind the arc. A dedicated, smart and strong player who can create her own shot, and shoots well off the catch. Good footwork around the rim, has a lot of tools to score. Can defend a strong, athletic player who can score, and she stepped up her game. Connected on 50 three’s on the season.
