To be honest, differentiating between point guards and shooting guards at the high school level can be somewhat tough. The most talented players on their team, which are on this list, often play many positions during the course of a game. Most of the players listed here are outstanding distributors of the ball and can also score from deep and inside. Here are the top 2020 guards in the state of Oklahoma.
No. 1 Guard (No. 3 Overall) – Rylee Langerman Rylee Langerman 5'9" | CG CHA | 2020 State OK | 5-9 | PG | Christian Heritage Academy
Langerman is a ball-handling wizard. She dribbles like nobody else in the 2020 class can. She is a “do-it-all” guard in the form of a Russell Westbrook or Sabrina Ionescu. She battles hard on the post, should she find herself there. She drives hard to the hoop. When sensing the double-team, the Arkansas Razorback commit more often than not finds the open teammate. She can also shoot from outside when called upon. “Do-it-all” is absolutely the right term for this superstar.
No. 2 Guard (No. 5 Overall) – Makenna Burch Makenna Burch 5'6" | CG Jenks | 2020 State OK | 5-6 | SG | Jenks
Perhaps the biggest riser on the list since the preseason rankings were released, Burch had an outstanding season. The Tulsa commit goes hard on every play, from start to finish. She is seen on tape usually flashing into passing lanes for steals or running the floor well ahead of everyone on the fast break. Burch has great instincts and uses them well on the defensive end. Her shooting is no laughing matter either, however. Burch will make head coach Matilda Mossman very happy from day one in the Reynolds Center.
No. 3 Guard (No. 6 Overall) – Korie Allensworth Korie Allensworth 5'10" | CG Empire | 2020 State OK | 5-10 | PG | Empire
Rylee Langerman Rylee Langerman 5'9" | CG CHA | 2020 State OK 2.0. That is exactly how I would describe Allensworth. She has great size for a point guard, but do not let that fool you, she is absolutely a point guard. The Louisiana Tech commit distributes the ball deftly around the court, often finding teammates with no-look or behind the back passes. It is clear to see that Allensworth loves the game of basketball. She has a silky smooth jumper and can score at ease against most teams. The future looks incredibly bright for Allensworth and may see her name added to the extensive record book that belongs to the Lousiana Tech Bulldogs.
There are many guards in the 2020 class that stand out beyond just the top-3. The No. 4 guard Skylar Vann Skylar Vann 5'10" | CG Deer Creek | 2020 State OK is uncommitted currently and being recruited heavily by a lot of Division-I schools. Vann is an absolute scoring machine and is going to make some head coach very happy in the near future. Wyvette Mayberry Wyvette Mayberry 6'0" | CG Booker T. Wash | 2020 State OK (No. 8 overall) is a powerful guard who drives hard to the basket. She is committed to Oral Roberts, meaning that the Mayberry/Burch (committed to Tulsa) will go on for four more years; which makes us all winners.
Several good players have yet to commit and should be a lot of fun to watch on the grassroots circuit in the near future. Maddie McClurg Maddie McClurg 5'7" | CG Bishop McGuiness | 2020 State OK (No. 34 overall) is an outstanding player and has taken visits to Penn and Yale in the last few months. Brayana Polk Brayana Polk 5'6" | CG Del City | 2020 State OK (No. 28 Overall) is a great scorer and has yet to sign anywhere. That probably will not be the case for very long.
