How about the basketball season that took place at Manasquan? The boys’ team finished 31-1 while the girls were 21-11. Both teams won a Central Jersey Group 2 state title led by their sophomore sensations. For the boys, it was Ben Roy. For the girls, it was Brooke Hollawell.
What Hollawell did during her sophomore season at Manasquan was incredible. She led the team scoring 13.1 points per game and scored in double-figures 23 times. Hollawell also took her game to another level when it mattered the most. She scored 17 points in the semi-finals of the Central Jersey Group 2 state tournament against Holmdel. In the finals against Rumson-Fair Haven, Hollawell led all scores with 23 points.
Hollawell plays a game that is beyond her years. As a sophomore, she already is equipped with a great understanding of the game. She is extremely quick in the open floor and can torment defenses on the fast break, but that is not always necessary. And Hollawell knows that. She is wise enough to know when to pull the ball out and run a set. This is what is going to make Hollawell a Division I point guard in the future. Not to mention her incredible skill set.
In the open floor, Hollawell is tough to guard because of her foot speed. She got to the free throw line effectively over the course of the season. She is also a microwave when shooting the ball. All she needs is to see one go in the basket and that is something she did 55 times from three-point range. Defensively, the aforementioned foot speed allows her to lock down opponents.
Hollawell has all the makings of a point guard at the next level. She has decent size at 5’7 and is a threat on both sides of the court. She is one of the more underrated players in New Jersey and that will change next season. IF you have not seen Hollawell play, it is a must over the next two seasons.
