Yesterday we released are updated Class of 2022 rankings, with several minor adjustments here and there. The point guards in 2022 bring a lot more depth than maybe anticipated a season ago, plus stylistically there are many different types of players/prospects to consider. Below is a look at the top 20 point guard prospects in Indiana’s Class of 2022, with additional comments to follow.

Indiana Showcase |
North Central point guard Tanyuel Welch Tanyuel Welch 5'10" | PG North Central (Indianapolis) | 2022 State IN has moved into our top spot amongst point guards this time, due to her much-improved play this season. She saw a lot of Varsity clock as a Freshman, but she was still tiny and struggled at times absorbing contact. This year, she played much stronger and was stronger with the ball, plus she’s shooting it much better at all levels. Not only did she average 13.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.5 steals on one of the state’s deepest, most talented teams, but she also made 37 3-pointers and was a solid 70% from the free throw line.
“Welcome back” is in store for feisty point guard Teresa Maggio Teresa Maggio 5'5" | PG McCutcheon | 2022 State IN of McCutcheon. After growing up in the McCutcheon system, she chose to attend Lafayette Jefferson as a Freshman. She returned to McCutcheon this year, only to watch all but four games from the sidelines due to IHSAA transfer rules. However, once she was able to take the floor, the Mavericks were a much different team. She helped them to consecutive wins over Indianapolis Pike, 21-3 West Lafayette Harrison, and the aforementioned Lafayette Jefferson, before eventually bowing out to Northwestern in the Sectional Final. During that stretch, Teresa averaged 18.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists.
Feisty, tough, and versatile are just a few words that can describe twins Delainey Shorter Delainey Shorter 5'7" | SG Sullivan | 2022 State IN & Gracie Shorter Gracie Shorter 5'5" | PG Sullivan | 2022 State IN of Sullivan. Other than being separated by maybe an inch or two and a jersey number, their games are incredibly similar and hard to tell apart. They are both athletic, energetic, playmaking combo guards who can really affect a game at both ends of the floor. Delainey plays a little “bigger”, rebounds the ball at a higher rate, and gets after it a little more defensively. Gracie is closer to a traditional point guard, she distributes the ball well, but she also shoots/scores it at a higher rate. Regardless, they are a tremendous tandem who cause problems for opposing teams on a nightly basis.
When I saw Garrett’s Nataley Armstrong Nataley Armstrong 5'7" | PG Garrett | 2022 State IN last Summer, she really caught me eye. But this Winter for Garrett, she was even that much better at times. She has a ton of length and moves around the floor with great energy, quickness, and fluidity, almost like a spider. She is a real pest at the defensive end of the floor and can lock up with her feet and her length. Offensively, she sees the floor well, she can drive it for scores, but she’s also a capable perimeter shooter when in rhythm. As she gets stronger, look for her to take even another big step. While there are 20 girls mentioned above, there are several other point guards I could also talk about. I think you’ll find the Class of 2022 is very strong at the top, but there is good depth and there are several really nice small college prospects as well.
