Crown Point’s Lilly Stoddard Lilly Stoddard 6'4" | PF Crown Point | 2022 State #73 Nation IN tops our list, and she looked much stronger and more aggressive this season. Her rebounding and shot-blocking seemed to be consistent all season, but her scoring really picked up after Christmas. She posted a 20-point, 13-rebound effort in the Championship Game at the Hall of Fame Tournament in New Castle on December 27, earning all-tournament honors. From that point, she put together a nine-game stretch in which she averaged just under 15 points per game on a top-ranked and talented Crown Point roster. She will need to continue gaining strength and working on her lateral explosion, but she has shown great strides over the past two seasons of playing lower, stronger, and more assertively. Lilly already holds several Division-I offers, including a couple of high-major offers.
Madison Kerrigan of Westfield High School is someone I am anxious to see again once we’re able to get back out there. I have always liked her combination of size, length, athleticism, and skill. She has the chance to develop into a really nice face-up ’4’, who should at the end of the day have the strength to also battle inside. She plays with a good motor, she seems to understand the game and plays with good instincts, plus she doesn’t mind physicality. I am really excited to see what Kennedy Wenger Kennedy Wenger 6'1" | PF Evansville Mater Dei | 2022 State IN of Evansville’s Mater Dei can do on the grassroots circuit. She has never played travel ball, but I did see her in a Fall league last October. She has great length, good North/South speed, and she can shoot the basketball at all levels. She still needs to gain strength and be a little more dynamic off the bounce, but her best days are still in front of her because she’s likely not done growing yet.
I was really impressed when I got to see Morgan Ostrowski Morgan Ostrowski 6'1" | PF Garrett | 2022 State IN of Garrett during Sectional play. She is another extremely long, somewhat thin, but very bouncy front-liner. She still needs strength, but she doesn’t mind sitting down on the block and getting physical with opponents. She just out-jumps them to finish and does possess good finishing moves. She’s a presence at the defensive end as a shot-blocker, plus she’s a nice pursuing rebounder. She did show some touch to about 15-feet, and if she can extend that to 20-feet consistently, I think she could develop into a Division-I mid-post ’4’. Emily Roper Emily Roper 6'0" | PF Carmel | 2022 State IN of Carmel is another really nice frontline prospect who I was impressed with over the Winter. She has a strong frame, she plays with a tremendous motor, and she does a lot of the little things really well. She has good feet and hands, she sits down and defends the perimeter well, plus she will bury people in the post and establish position/hold her seal. She doesn’t get the ball a lot right now, but she does have a good understanding of how to play inside. She is also a talented soccer player.
One player who I am not terribly familiar with, but who stood out when I watched them on film, is Madison Dirksen Madison Dirksen 5'11" | PF Jay County | 2022 State IN of Jay County. She put together a really nice Sophomore season and was a nice compliment to star Freshman Renna Schwieterman Renna Schwieterman 6'0" | SF Jay County | 2023 State IN . Dirksen has a wiry strong, fairly solid frame, she plays with a good motor, and she showed the ability to play both inside and out, averaging 10.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, and knocking down a handful of 3-pointers for the Patriots. While there are 20 girls mentioned above, there are several other power forwards I could also talk about. I think you’ll find the Class of 2022 is very strong at the top, but there is good depth and there are several really nice small college prospects as well.
