Aubrey Joens – 5’9 SG – 2020 – Iowa City High
Joens came up big on both ends of the floor today as she scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Half of those were offensive rebounds and was a small part of the overall hustle that Joens showed today. Her shot wasn’t dropping as well as it usually does but she still was a big factor in the win. She also added four steals defensively.
Maya McDermott – 5’5 PG – 2020 – Johnston
McDermott had a tough go early on but then started attacking the basket and diving into passing lanes to get transition baskets. She finished with 30 points and also had six steals and six assists. Her aggressive mentality was crucial all game long and it really spurred Johnston giving them momentum.
Katie Dinnebier – 5’8 PG – 2021 – Waukee
Dinnebier was flying all over the floor on both ends of the floor in their big win over Sioux City East. She finished the game with 24 points and really never struggled to get to the rim at all. Dinnebier was great defensively grabbing four steals and had just one turnover in the game. She was a very important piece today for Waukee.
Brooke Woodyard – 6′ PF – 2022 – Southeast Polk
Woodyard was dominant in the post as she scored 24 points. Woodyard was able to get the ball in the post and score rather easily all day long. She even stepped out and hit a few 3-pointers which is very impressive for her size. Woodyard got a lot better this year and she showed that today against Johnston.
Ellie Foster – 5’10 PG – 2020 – Dike-New Hartford
Foster started the game on fire as she scored 20 points in the first half on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. Foster was knocking down jumper after jumper as her teammates struggled early on. She finished the game with 21 points but if it wasn’t for her first half outburst, the game could have been very different.
Halli Poock – 5’5 PG – 2023 – Waterloo West
Poock took over the game late en route to scoring 27 points in an upset win over Cedar Falls. She was getting to the rim with ease and struggled to finish at times but stepped up big when her team needed her to do so. Poock added five rebounds and three assists in the game.
Maggie Phipps – 5’11 SG – 2021 – North Polk
Phipps was shooting the ball very well today as she scored 27 points and finished 5-of-5 from beyond the arc. Everything was working well for her in the game and she was 8-of-13 from the floor. Her release off the catch was pure and she was a big reason that North Polk got off to a blazing start.
Jaedon Murphy – 5’11 PF – 2020 – North Polk
Murphy scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in what was a rout of Red Oak. She is very physical allowing her to score the ball on the inside with ease but she is also versatile enough that she was bringing it up the floor. She dished off five assists and showed why she is such a pertinent piece to their success.
Emerson Green – 5’10 SG – 2020 – Cedar Falls
Green scored 19 points in what was her last high school game. She was solid attacking the basket and her feel for the game is off the charts. Green showcased an all-around game and showed why she is going to be playing at Northern Iowa. It was a solid game from a very good player.
Sara Faber – 5’8 PG – 2020 – Clear Lake
Faber put her team on her back in the second half as she scored 19 of her 26 points in the second half. She scored 11 points in a row at one point as she took her team from being down two to firmly in control during the third quarter. She dished off four assists and also had three steals in the big win for Clear Lake.
