It was a battle for both teams until the very end, but in a game with such high competition, it showed a lot about both teams. Here are the top takeaways from tonight’s game.
Valley Vista’s Marisa Davis and Jennah Isai are nearly unstoppable
It was a rough start for Valley Vista, but once the Monsoon found their rhythm, these two both went on to have an explosive night. Both Davis and Isai put up 18 points each and were the main reason why Valley Vista was able to overcome the deficit and win the game. The best part about the dynamic duo? They’ll both be back next year, Isai as a junior and Davis as a senior.
Expect Graciela Roybal and Amyah Reaves to be Hamilton’s leading scorers next year
The juniors were the team’s two leading scorers on the night, Reaves putting up 12 and Roybal putting up eight. While Hamilton does a great job at making sure that it’s truly a “team” effort by attempting to get all of their girls shots, I expect these two to be a step above the rest next year
Valley Vista does a great job of boxing out and getting rebounds
The Monsoon out-rebounded Hamilton 43-25, which ultimately helped them secure the win. Davis lead the Monsoon with 14 rebounds, securing a double-double in the state championship game.
Hamilton does a great job of passing the ball around
While the Huskies didn’t win, they did a great job of making sure that they passed the ball around to open up shots and help each other score. They had more than double the number of assists compared to Valley Vista.
Don’t be surprised if both teams make it back to the championship game again next year
Valley Vista is only losing one player, and Hamilton three, so both teams will be returning a majority of their core players. Do not be surprised to see them both ranked among the top for a majority of next season and likely returning to state.
