We focus and a pair from John Burroughs ( Vanessa Polk Vanessa Polk 6'2" | C John Burroughs | 2022 State MO & Peyton Starks) and Lutheran South (Macy Schelp & Emma Pawlitz) as out spotlight ballers.
In a tough Metro League this super sophomore proved her time is right now and the Wildcats have a fine one here for the next two seasons. Highmark is a player that proved herself with a average of 16.1 ppg. in her 28 games of action. Brooke was among 3-point field goal leaders in the Metro with 57. Poured home 27 points vs. Borgia & Parkway Central.
The Lancers have a good one in defensive standout Macy Schelp, a 5-7 player that moves her feet very well and used her quick hands the be the overall Metro leader in steals with 70 and a season-high 7 vs. MICDS. Averaged 7.3 ppg and was a efficient shooter from the floor as well at 42.3% on the year along with making 71% of her shots from the charity stripe, Macy is that player that can help you in every aspect of the game.
No need to venture far as we look at another outstanding guard from Lutheran South in 5-9 Emma Pawlitz, a player who lit it up from outside all season long for the Lancers. Pawlitz converted on 67 – three pointers with a season-high five vs Union and Hancock and for the year averaged 14.7 ppg. She likes to fire away and is expected to have the green light as a senior and look for even more long distance points as a senior.
Polk was one of the best looking low post players in the 22 class in St. Louis this year and a player that really crashed the boards hard, with it not hurting that she stands 6-2. The Bombers ’22 star had a great scoring year also going over 20 points four times with a top mark of 22 vs. Ursuline. Had a season-high 18 rebounds in back to back games vs. Webster Groves and Cor Jesu in late December.
Another John Burroughs Bomber standout was junior and class of 21 scoring threat Peyton Starks, a 5-10 guard that was among the top handful of scoring leaders in the Metro this past season, Peyton clipping at 14.77 ppg. Among the most impressive shooters as well, shot 50.6% on 165-of-303 shooting from the floor as well and was around a 78% free throw shooter as well. Starks proved that she was a player whose time is truly now to shine.
