Continue ReadingWe move on to the 4 spot in our top 5 series. We are now looking at the top 5 power forwards in the 2021 class. These players typically play more of the post or stretch 4 role. While some/most of them are more than capable of playing the 3 spot, they either usually play the 4 in high school or I believe their game is best suited for the 4 spot going into college.
#1 Marisa Davis-Jones Marisa Davis-Jones 6'1" | PF Valley Vista | 2021 State AZ 6’1 2021 PF Valley Vista
MDJ is a perfect example of someone who I believe will flourish in the 4 spot in college. MDJ can bring a lot of versatility and athleticism to your PF position. She is super fast, long, and lengthy. She easily guards 1-5 and is probably the best perimeter defender in the state due to her length, speed, and mobility. Offensively, Davis scores a ton off of the fast break. Having a big that can run in transition is every coaches dream! She can also score off the low block and has shown to hit the 3 ball from time to time.
#2 Alyssa Brown Alyssa Brown 6'1" | PF Sahuaro | 2021 State AZ 6’1 2021 C Sahuaro
Brown is a flat out scoring machine. She uses her size and speed very well in order to draw fouls and get to the FT line. She makes a living off of this skill! Brown is a vicious rebounder and can also run in transition. Brown has shown that she can handle the ball a little bit and bring it up the court if need be. Her outside shot is a little hit or miss but she does the majority of her damage off drive situations.
#3 Isabella DiGiovanni Isabella DiGiovanni 6'2" | PF Seton Catholic | 2021 State AZ 6’2 2021 PF Seton Catholic
Isabella has really improved her game and is now getting a lot of interest from schools nationwide. She has great size, length, and strength. She has really stepped up her aggression and that has been a huge help to her overall game. She can run in transition, hit the 3 ball, hit the mid-range, and finish at the rim. DiGiovanni has stepped up big time on the defensive end, getting more fluid in her rotation from side to side. Isabella does a lot of nice things for your team and is just as versatile and has a great impact on the game. The scary thing is that she is just now starting to come into her own and really step up her game. It’ll be interesting to see how far she can take her game.
#4 Shayla O’Neil Shayla O’Neil 6'0" | PF Perry | 2021 State AZ 6’0 2021 PF Perry
Shayla O’Neil Shayla O’Neil 6'0" | PF Perry | 2021 State AZ could be a very good stretch 4 in my opinion. If her ball handling improves, I think she has a solid shot at playing the 3 spot but right now we’ll keep her as a 4. Her jumper is actually very consistent and she rolls to the basket very well. Shayla can also catch off the wing and attack. I see her being a big problem for opposing teams in the pick and roll/pick and pop game. O’Neil is also very athletic so she will be able to run with those guards.
#5 Annemarie Trojanovich Annemarie Trojanovich 5'10" | PF Arizona Elite Prep | 2021 State AZ 6’0 2021 PF Seton Catholic
Annemarie is another very interesting stretch 4 prospect. Annemarie knows her strengths and sticks to it. She is a very good shooter and has a quick release. She is absolutely dangerous in those pick and pop situations. She can consistently knock down shots from mid-range and the deep 3. Right now, her game is very offensive heavy. As she progresses and develops, she needs to work on rebounding and stepping up her defensive game to become a well rounded prospect and in order to become that much more versatile.
