The small forward position is one of the most important and versatile positions in the game in my opinion. These players have to be just as skilled as the guards, while also being able to play like a forward and get on the boards. Some of the players on this list are some of the most versatile players in the class.
#1 Kiya Dorroh Kiya Dorroh 6'0" | SF Compass Prep | 2021 State #65 Nation AZ 6’1 2021 SF Sabino
Dorroh is one of the most versatile players in the state, playing both guard and forward spots. Dorroh does whatever her team needs to win the game and adjusts her game accordingly to fill their need. She has handles, jumper, and finishes well around the rim. Defensively, she has stepped up her game and can now guard 1-5. Dorroh has also turned into an elite shot blocker due to her athleticism, long arms, and timing. Dorroh is currently ranked #7 in the 2021 ESPN National Rankings at her position and 54th overall.
#2 Amanda Barcello Amanda Barcello 5'11" | SF Seton Catholic | 2021 State AZ 5’11 2021 SF Seton Catholic
Barcello is another super versatile player. I believe that her biggest strength is in her defense. She can guard 1-5 and really causes problems on that end. She’s very vocal and is constantly directing traffic for her squad. Offensively, her handles have really improved and her jumper is looking more and more consistent by the day. She can finish well around the rim and rebounds well. Whatever you need her to do, she will get it done.
#3 Alaya Fitzgerald Alaya Fitzgerald 5'11" | CG Mesquite | 2021 State AZ 5’10 2021 SF Mesquite
Fitzgerald is an absolute scoring machine. When she gets going it’s virtually impossible to stop her from getting 20 points. She’s super strong and has a good frame. Match that with her speed and scoring ability and you have an absolute bucket getter! Fitzgerald can score on the block, off the drive, from the mid-range, and from the 3.
#4 Samara Curry Samara Curry 5'11" | SF Compass Prep | 2021 State AZ 5’11 2021 SF Hamilton
Curry has so much potential to be great! She is already doing a lot of good things now but I love her potential. She is very athletic and super long. She rebounds well and gets a lot of points for herself off put backs and from the mid-range. Curry can also drive and finish well due to her length and speed. She needs to improve on her handling and shooting from deep. Once she gets those skills locked down, she will be dangerous!
#5 Jaya Nelson Jaya Nelson 5'8" | PF Salpointe Catholic | 2021 State AZ 5’10 2021 SF Salpointe Catholic
Nelson plays with a lot of heart and fire. Even through fatigue or tiredness, she never lets it affect her game. Nelson has a mental toughness that allows her to keep going and keep pushing. She is very versatile and can do a lot for her team. She is a very good play maker, probably one of the most underrated play makers in the state. She draws a lot of attention off of her drives and can easily find open teammates off those rip and attack situations.
