The State public schools are broken up into 5 classifications from 1A – 5A and the Boys & Girls game are played back to back for each classification, That makes things very interesting when you have a school qualify both of their teams like Keenan did this year, for the 2nd year in a row….
I have identified the Top Scorers and performances throughout the 2 day event that caught my eye..
- Tyliah Burns Tyliah Burns 5'6" | CG North Augusta High School | 2020 State SC – 2020 – Guard – North Augusta HS – Scored 33 Points which was the most all weekend for any of the Girls games, carried her team to there 4th straight SCHSL State Championship. The WSSU Signee was very efficient going 11-17 on FGA, 5-8 3-Pt FGA, 6-7 FT, 7 Assist, 5 Steals in her Final High School game
- Milaysia Fulwiley Milaysia Fulwiley 5'8" | PG Keenan | 2023 State #9 Nation SC – 2023 – Guard – Keenan HS – Scored 29 Points in leading her team to their 2nd SCHSL State Championship in 3 years, I thought she was going to get to 40 or 50 Pts after her 18 Point 1st half performance. The Freshman was determined to bring this trophy back to Columbia following a disappointing loss last year…. There will be more trips for this Keenan team with Milaysia running the show.
- Randi Neal – 2020 – Guard – South Pointe HS – Scored 22 Points in her loss to North Augusta in the 4A Finals, this is the 2nd consecutive year for this same matchup & result. Randi was amazing in carrying her team back in the 3rd qtr, down 10 at Halftime, Randi scored 12 points in the 3rd to help tie the game heading to the 4th Qtr, The JCSU Commit scored from many spots on the court, including 3-Pt line.
- Taniah Wilkins – 2020 – Wing – High Point Academy – Scored 19 Points in leading her team to the State Championship a year after losing to Scotts Branch & giving up a 4th qtr lead. The performance was even more dominant once you look at her entire stat line – 18 Rebounds – 5 Blocks – 3 Steals & 2 Assists, while playing all 32 Minutes of the game. The WSSU Signee was amazing in leading her team, you can tell she wanted this win so bad but never put herself in foul trouble.
- Ca’Vashia Johnson – 2020 – Guard – -North Charleston HS – Scored 17 Points in leading her team to there 1st State Championship since 1984, she came up with a huge 3-Ptr to give her team the lead with 2:00 Minutes left in the game that would be the dagger. Ca’Vashia was able to add 4 Steals & 3 Assists to her stat line but her big shot making was the reason her team are now State Champions.
- Rykia Jakes Rykia Jakes 5'5" | SG Military Magnet | 2023 State SC – 2023 – Guard – Military Magnet Academy – Scored 16 Points in helping her team to an early lead in their 1st Championship appearance, this group is so young and filled with talented Guards. Rykia was cookling early and often, finished the 1st half with 12 points & 2 made 3-Ptrs as her team held a 28 – 27 Lead going into the locker room.
- Aniyah Oliver Aniyah Oliver 5'6" | CG Goose Creek | 2020 State SC – 2020 – Guard – Goose Creek HS – Scored 13 Points and went home with her 3rd State Championship in the last 4 years but most importantly played incredible defense and ran her team to perfection. Aniyah finished with 8 Assists and accounted for 29 of her teams 42 Points during the game, her defense helped to hold Clover to 38 Points, 26 Points lower that what they were averaging so far this postseason. The Francis Marion Signee is going out on top and has left a legacy for her younger teammates to follow.
