On both the boys and girls side, the Class of 2022 is extremely strong. Sophomores have burst onto the scene and have completely taken over the high school game. This means great things for the future. After watching their second season, here are the top scorers from the Class of 2022.
Madison St. Rose Madison St. Rose 5'10" | PG St. John Vianney | 2022 State #65 Nation NJ | St. John Vianney: St. Rose was not the leading scorer in the state but what was she? The best player in the state as a sophomore. She averaged 18.3 points per game this season for the best team in New Jersey. St. Rose is a future Division I player that will not have to wait long for top-tier schools to be knocking on her door.
Kiley Capstraw Kiley Capstraw 5'10" | SG West Orange | 2022 State NJ | West Orange: Capstraw started off the season with a bang scoring 20 or more points in eight of the first 10 games, including three 30-point performances. Capstraw is a capable shooter but is best with the ball in her hands getting to the basket.
Christy Brennan Christy Brennan 5'5" | PG Hopatcong | 2022 State NJ | Hopatcong: Brennan scored 556 points this season and was one of the top foul shooters in the state knocking down 189. It is a skill to draw contact and get to the free throw line. Brennan has perfected that skill at a young age and this will help her game over the next two seasons.
Saniah Caldwell Saniah Caldwell 5'8" | PG Saddle River Day | 2022 State #52 Nation NJ | Saddle Day River: We will see a lot of Caldwell on Saddle Day River. She is not only one of the best scorers, but is one of the best players in the Class of 2022. She is an elite rebounder and can pass the ball anywhere. Caldwell’s basketball IQ matches up with her skill and this makes for a top of the line prospect.
Veyoni Davis Veyoni Davis 5'8" | CG Moorestown | 2024 PA | Moorestown Friends: Davis scored double-digit points in every game this season. She was a big time shooter with 43 made three’s. She has a quick trigger that she is not afraid to use from anywhere on the floor. Davis will build her game up to the level of her jump shot which is a scary thought for defenses.
Imani Gillette | Overbrook: Perhaps the most underrated player in the class. Gillette is an unstoppable player on the block. She is not a shooter, but it is not necessary when she scores the way she does down low. A big scorer and strong rebounder.
Aaliyah Harrison | Weequahic: Harrison burst onto the scene in her second season and showed that she is a scorer. Harrison got off to a hot start then cooled down. Consistency was an issue all season but the skill is there and will grow over the next two years.
