The first few minutes of the game were tough for both teams offensively, as they were struggling to get the shots to fall. However, Hamilton quickly was able to find their groove, passing the ball around and getting girls open for shots. The Huskies had bak-to-back threes from juniors Amyah Reaves and Graciela Roybal, getting things rolling for the Huskies.
Valley Vista really struggled against Hamilton’s defensive efforts in the first eight minutes. Their only points game off free throws, but even then, they struggled from the line. At the end of one, Hamilton was up 10-2.
The Monsoon didn’t struggle for too long, though, as they were able to find their rhythm in the second quarter. Not only did they do a better job of passing the ball and getting girls open, they also were better at drawing the foul in situations where they were struggling to get shots off. Defensively, Valley Vista also stepped it up in the second quarter, making things a bit tougher for Hamilton. At the half, Hamilton was still up on Valley Vista 19-15.
Valley Vista made adjustments at halftime and really started picking things up defensively, making it tougher for Hamilton to get to the basket while they continued to keep the rhythm offensively. The Monsoon were able to take their first lead of the game with less than a minute to go in the quarter and closed out the 3rd leading 30-26 over Hamilton.
In the final eight minutes of the game, it was a tough battle for both schools, but Hamilton wasn’t going down without a fight. The Huskies were able to tie it up with 21 seconds remaining, but unfortunately for them, it was not enough. The Monsoon were able to pull ahead after hitting four consecutive free throws off two fouls.
Junior Marisa Davis and sophomore Jennah Isai were the leading scorers for Valley Vista, both putting up 18 points a piece on the night, while junior Amyah Reaves was the leading scorer for Hamilton with 12.
