Player of the Year:
Breanna Yarber – 6’2 Forward/Center – Patrick Henry-Glade Spring
Breanna (photo at the top) is a long and athletic player who protects the rim, causing blocks and turnovers, which turns into easy fast breakpoints. She runs the floor very well, finishing strong on either side of the basket. Breanna scored 18 points in a Region 1D Championship win to advance to the state tournament.
First Team:
Drea Betts – 5’8 Guard – George Wythe-Wytheville
Drea is a strong and athletic guard who attacks the basket relentlessly, scoring 15 points, including 1 three-pointer in a 1C Regional Championship win to advance to the state tournament. She has already scored her 1,000th career points, earning 1C All-Region First-Team and Player of the Year honors.

Berkeley plays big down low, leading her team in both points and rebounds, averaging 14.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. She scored 17 points in a double-overtime victory in the state quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals, earning 1B All-Region First-Team honors.

LeeAnna is an athletic, strong and tough guard who missed the first 9 nine games recovering from a torn ACL. She also uses her size and strength to play the post and defend the bigger players. LeeAnna scored 27 points, 19 rebounds, and 5 assists in a state quarterfinals win, she is averaging 18.6 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.9 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game throughout the season. LeeAnna has earned Black Diamond All-District First-Team and Player of the Year honors.

Anna Whited is an athletic forward with high basketball IQ, she is known for her intense defense, which leads to turnovers and easy points in transition. Anna had a career night in a Region 1D quarterfinal win, scoring a career-high 30 points, including 7 rebounds, 5 steals, 6 deflections and also scoring her 1,000th career points. She was named Cumberland District Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
Second Team:

Akilah is a guard who can step out and shoot the ball from long range, knocking down over 300 made field goals from behind the arc in her career. She is averaging 14.1 points, 1.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds, and 2 steals per game throughout the season. In the state quarterfinals, Akilah scored 13 points, including 3 three-pointers and 9 points, all three-pointers, in the state semi-finals. She earned Black Diamond All-District First-Team honors for the season.
Candace Slaw – Center – Rappahannock – Class of 2023
Candace is an aggressive post player who is averaging 11.6 points and 6.4 rebounds a game, leading her team in both. She is an all-around player, also averaging 2.1 steals and 1.8 assists. Candace had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, including 3 assists, 5 steals and 4 blocks in a Region 1A Championship win, helping her team advance to the state tournament.
