Continue ReadingWith our most recent rankings update we expanded our 2022 rankings to include 150 players. 26 of those are shooting guards which bring the total number of ranked guards to 70 of the 150. Even some of the small forwards will play guard at the next level but are so versatile they are labeled as wings. Aree Beckmann Aree Beckmann 5'8" | SG Xavier | 2022 State IA has the top spot for now with her pure ability to shoot the ball. She showed us in the fall and then during the winter that when she is in a rhythm she can knock down shots from all over the floor. Beckmann comes in as the #13 player in the overall rankings but is closely followed but Meredith Rieker Meredith Rieker 5'10" | SG Valley | 2022 State IA at #14 and the second-ranked shooting guard. These two players play a different style of game and can be argued to be the top shooting guard in the class.
After these two you have Macy Sievers Macy Sievers 5'7" | SG Newell-Fonda | 2022 State IA , Anna Gossling Anna Gossling 5'5" | SG Johnston | 2022 State IA , and Alexis Beier Alexis Beier 5'8" | SG Linn-Mar | 2022 State IA rounding out the top five. Sievers does a lot of her damage on the defensive end of the floor and converts steals into baskets at a very high percentage. Gossling is a tough knockdown shooter from Johnston that has gotten much better at taking the ball to the rim over the past six months. Beier is a bit of a hybrid between the two as she scores at all three levels and has the ability to play very good defense. These five players are the only players ranked inside the Top 30 as far as the shooting guards go.
Madison Camden Madison Camden 5'8" | SG Glenwood | 2022 State IA is just on the outside of the Top 30 as she is the 33rd ranked player in the 2022 class and the 6th ranked shooting guard. After Camden you have players like Elle Street Elle Street 5'8" | SG Ankeny Centennial | 2022 State IA , Sadie Struchen Sadie Struchen 5'9" | SG Marion | 2022 State IA , Sydney Remmert Sydney Remmert 5'6" | SG Cedar Falls | 2022 State IA , and Alexis Pingel Alexis Pingel 5'7" | SG Cherokee | 2022 State IA who have a ton of potential and could very easily end up as Top 30-35 players in the class depending on their development. Outside of the Top 10 there are even more players who could be full scholarship players as this is a very deep guard class in terms of small school scholarship players. I am very interested to see how this position shapes up over the next year or so.
