The one group that remains much the same as ever are the bigs. While interior players are being asked more and more to step outside and knock down some longer shots, their primary job remains to dominate the interior. They are expected score, rebound, and defend the rim while making it difficult for opposing bigs to do the same. Here are the players from the class of 2022 who do those things the best.
Halle Langhi Halle Langhi 6'1" | C Marshall County | 2022 State KY , Marshall County- Established for several years as the top post player in this class and one of the best in the state, Langhi has all the tools anyone could want out of an elite big. She possesses great size and athleticism to go along with a nice scoring touch and good instincts. She has struggled some attempting to stretch the floor with her outside shot, Langhi still dominates the inside and should only improve around the rim going forward.
Patience Lester, Franklin County- Maybe the truest post player in the state, Lester epitomizes the type of traditional inside presence that is becoming less prevalent in basketball. She bullies her opponents, dominating with pure physicality while scoring at a high percentage and rebounding at a strong level. While her style of play may not be as popular as it once was, there is certainly still a place for as dominating an interior presence as Lester.
Kennedy Lee, DuPont Manual- Shooting up the rankings with a strong sophomore performance, Lee played a key role for a great manual team. She nearly averaged a double, showing her chops as an elite rebounder while also using her size and athleticism to score inside at a good rate. Like many post players, Lee is working to establish an outside shot. If she does, the added versatility will send her rocketing even further up these rankings.
Rachel Presley Rachel Presley 6'2" | C South Laurel | 2022 State KY , South Laurel- Despite being limited to 8 games due to a transfer issue, Presley remains one of the state’s most dominant interior players. She has the ability to light it up on offense, scoring at a high volume while making 60% of her shots, an absolutely elite number. With a full season coming next year, Presley has a chance to re-establish her dominance and become one of the state’s top players.
Anaya Brown Anaya Brown 6'0" | C Lafayette | 2022 State KY , Lafayette- A player who fits into more of a modern mold of what is considered a big, Brown does damage on the inside thanks to her athleticism and length, but is not to be confused with someone who physically bullies others in the post. What she does do is pull down rebounds, block shots, and score thanks to that excellent length and athleticism, while using those same attributes to get out in transition and run the floor more than most bigs. If she can continue to add some polish to her game, Brown’s physical gifts make her potential sky-high.
