Continue ReadingWithout any new basketball in the near future, we continue our evaluation of players by coming out with and evaluating new rankings of each class. Today, we will look at the best guards for our new class of 2022 rankings. Guards can fit many different molds, with the traditional pass-first playmakers being joined be ball-handlers who are just as adept at scoring for themselves. Regardless of their particular skillsets, all these players excel at running the offense in one way or another. And for players as young as those on this list, that shows an impressive maturity and basketball IQ to go along with those skills. So here are the class of 2022’s best guards.
Jaya McClure Jaya McClure 5'6" | PG Christian Academy Louisville | 2022 State KY , Christian Academy-Louisville– Charged with running the offense of one of the state’s most talented teams, McClure showed poise well beyond her years and played the role of distributor and secondary scoring option perfectly. Now, much of that talent is graduating for CAL, and McClure will have the opportunity to show she can be the focal point of an offense. If she is up to the challenge, she can cement herself as one of the top players in the state.
Allie Stone Allie Stone 5'5" | CG West Carter | 2022 State KY , West Carter- Perhaps the most gifted offensive player on this list, Stone has shown an innate ability to score from all levels. She has a smooth jump shot, and seemed to perfect her mid-range and inside moves this season. She also grew as a distributor, making some excellent pinpoint passes to set up teammates. With all these skills, Stone is someone the rest of the state will have to look out for going forward.
Cassidy Rowe Cassidy Rowe 5'5" | PG Shelby Valley | 2022 State KY , Shelby Valley- One of the most talented players in the state, Rowe has had terrible luck with back-to-back ACL tears over the last two years. Fortunately, the UK commit was able to return this season in late January, and by the end of the year looked to be rounding back into form. Going into the summer fully healthy, Rowe looks to have two more years to reassert herself as one of the state’s elite players.
Camryn LaGrange Camryn LaGrange 5'8" | PG Madisonville-North Hopkins | 2022 State KY , Madisonville-North Hopkins- While many ball handlers excel as distributors, LaGrange fits into the score-first prototype of a guard. And scoring is something LaGrange does at an elite level. She has shown the ability to explode with huge scoring games and stretches of hot shooting. If LaGrange can use those skills a little more consistently, she will likely end up as one of the state’s top scorers.
Monica Lindsey Monica Lindsey 5'5" | CG Central Hardin | 2022 State KY , North Hardin- Lindsey shot onto the scene this season as one of this class’s top two-way players. She is at her best creating turnovers and quickly turning them into buckets on the other end, both for herself and for her teammates. She also showed an ability to get to the rim in the half-court, as well as a developing 3 point shot. If Lindsey can further make use of these skills and improve running a half-court offense, she can continue shooting up these rankings.
