Canada’s BC United travel program has become exactly that for college programs through Canada’s college system, as well as NCAA Division 1 and Division 2 schools in the United States. BC United is a collection of the best talent from British Columbia, Canada with four grassroots programs coming together to give girls the best opportunity to play with and against elite level competition in the Under Armour Association.
The class of 2019 had multiple girls go Division 1 and players have moved on to colleges such as Florida, San Diego State, Arizona State, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga and more in the last three years. I recently caught up with BC United/AthElite Director Aman Heran to get the scoop on where their players in the 2020 and 2021 classes stand as far as college recruitment goes.
Class of 2020:
1) Jessica Clarke
Height: 6’4
Position: C/F
High School: St. Thomas Aquinas
Committed: Washington State University
2) India Aikins
Height: 5’10
Position: PG/SG
High School: Tweedsmuir Secondary
Committed: University of California Riverside
Class of 2021:
1) Samantha Shields
Height: 5’10
Position: SG
High School: Riverside Secondary
Committed: San Jose State University
2) Deja Lee
Height: 5’9
Position: PG
High School: Semiamhoo Secondary
Committed: University of California Riverside
Two players in the 2021 class are narrowing in and close to making their decisions including versatile 6’1 F Tara Wallack who has cut her list to five and plans to announce a commitment soon. The other is 6’1 Isabelle Forsyth who has also narrowed her list to five schools with her commitment coming soon as well, so stay tuned! Both of these prospects out of BC will be attending Division 1 schools.
