Best floor generals
Manchester point guard Angelica Velez Angelica Velez 5'6" | PG Webb Bell-Buckle | 2023 State TN was forced to grow up quickly playing in the ultra-competitive Shore Conference. She didn’t post gaudy numbers like some of the other players in the rankings, but her tough defense and playmaking helped her team emerge as one of the best teams in the state.
Paul VI was one of the biggest surprise teams this season and the No. 1 reason was the play of Hannah Hidalgo Hannah Hidalgo 5'7" | PG Paul VI | 2023 State NJ . She emerged as one of the best on-the-ball defenders and knew when to play the role of playmaker and when to call her own number.
Best post player
Not only is Trenton Catholic’s Aaylah Del Rosario the best freshmen big, she’s arguably the best post player regardless of class. Yeah, Del Rosario is that good. She runs the floor hard, is an unbelievable rebounder and finishes well around the rim. Her biggest gift? Her ability to pass the ball. TCA ran their offense through the 6-5 center and her decision making was outstanding.
Best combo guard
If you’re a regular reader of Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey, you know Trenton Catholic’s Zoe Brooks Zoe Brooks 5'8" | CG St. John Vianney | 2023 State NJ has been the most complete guard in the state all season. At 5-9, she has the size to bang in the paint, she can score on the wing and is also effective sliding over to play the lead guard. She finished her rookie campaign with almost 400 points and 115-plus rebounds, assists and steals.
Best rebounder
If it wasn’t for Trenton Catholic dynamic duo, Glassboro’s Alexis Davis Alexis Davis 6'0" | SF Woodbury | 2023 State NJ would be at the top of our 2023 list. The forward was a scoring machine this season but it was her rebounding numbers that opened eyes. Despite only standing 5-10, she pulled down 11.9 rebounds a game. Her career high was 20 boards in a game and she had double digit rebounds in 25 out of 29 contest. The standout also averaged 21.1 points per game.
Best scorer
Simply put, Tenafly’s Rylie Theuerkauf Rylie Theuerkauf 5'7" | SG Tenafly | 2023 State NJ is a walking bucket. The sharpshooter was one of the top scorers in the Garden State this season. She reached double digits in 23 out of 24 games, including scoring 37 twice and 41 points another time. She knocked down 11 3-pointers in a win vs. Dwight Morrow.
